An Intoxilyzer Operator job is available with the City of Fort Worth Police Department Jail Section. In this position an Intoxilyzer performs a variety of functions relative to DWI investigations; administers intoxilyzer tests, videotapes suspects, and completes required paperwork; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS diploma/GED
  • One (1) year of intoxilyzer testing experience.
  • Valid intoxilyzer operator certification.
  • Must pass Drug Screen, and Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with individuals under DWI investigation.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Basic computer skills.

The Intoxilyzer job responsibilities include:

  • Performs a variety of functions relative to DWI investigations. Accepts and searches prisoners under investigation. Administers the intoxilyzer test.
  • Advises prisoners of their constitutional rights. Issues video and breath test warnings. Guides prisoner through physical sobriety test.
  • Interviews prisoners and videotapes interview utilizing various video equipment; completes required paperwork during interview.
  • Transports video tapes to property room and submits as evidence.
  • Records jail incidents for detectives.
  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, orders supplies as needed.
  • Testifies in court during the prosecution of DWI cases.

Physical Demand:

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects

Working Conditions:

Final candidates selected for hire in the Police Department will be subject to a fingerprint/criminal history background check and polygraph examination. Applicants must not have used marijuana during the previous two (2) years, nor illegally used any controlled substances within the last ten (10) years.

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
