Job Description

The University of Notre Dame Enterprises and Events (UEE) division is currently hiring for the position of Baker 3 within the department of Center for Culinary Excellence. The UEE division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives.

Why this position?

The Baker 3 position is responsible for assisting in the production and execution of recipes following accepted culinary practices in a high volume, fast-paced atmosphere. This position reports directly to the Assistant Pastry Chef, supporting the mission and goals of a “best in class” dining program for students and guests of Notre Dame. The lead baker is in charge of the bakery in the absence of the executive or assistant pastry chef. Some duties include but not limited to, staff training, printing/ assigning production as needed, assisting with inventory counts, recipe testing and assist in developing new products. He/she will also complete or assist in completing general assignments related to the scaling, mixing, cooking/ baking, assembly, and decorating of bakery goods through standards of service and hospitality, ensuring the Notre Dame Community and guests with the very best food and service.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • 6-12 months

Skills

  • Must be able to demonstrate basic bakery skills and great attention to detail.
  • Must have fundamental working knowledge of the following basic baking techniques: converting recipes both in American and metric
  • measuring systems, scaling, mixing procedures, proofing, baking, decorating, frying.
  • Ability to solve problems with ease. Must work in a professional, hospitable and empathetic manner to bring the best to the surface of all operations.
  • Be welcoming, sincere and provide a great hospitality experience for all university students,
  • faculty/staff, guests and visitors.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance to professional standards.
  • This position carries many different duties and depending on the assigned area, the percentage of work for the duties and responsibility change.
  • Ability to communicate well with fellow employees and management orally and in writing.
  • Ability to comprehend and perform both routine jobs and special needs with basic instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

ServeSafe Certification

Culinary degree or equivalent is preferred

Other classes may be assigned by manager as they arise
