The OCI Database Administrator responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, and optimization of databases hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role plays a vital part in ensuring data integrity, availability, and security while optimizing database performance within the OCI environment.

Ideal candidate understands not only the concepts of Database but also how they apply to the day-to-day processes of a Production business environment. Responsible for supporting critical business operations. Works independently to provide quality services to multiple customer engagements. Performs varied and complex duties and tasks that need independent judgment to support Oracle products and technology to meet customer needs. Applies Oracle methodology, company procedures, and leading practices. Experience in DBBAS/OCI cloud is a big plus.

Career Level - IC4

1. Oracle Database Administration: Perform all aspects of Oracle database administration including installation, configuration, upgrading, patching, backup and recovery, and database security.

2. Oracle Exadata Management: Knowledge Oracle Exadata Cloud infrastructure, including the administration of Exadata storage cells, Oracle Database Appliance, and other components.

3. Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize the performance of Oracle databases on OCI environment by analyzing database performance metrics, tuning SQL queries, optimizing database design, and implementing performance-enhancing techniques.

4. High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Configure and maintain Oracle Data Guard, Oracle RAC, and other high availability solutions to ensure continuous availability of databases. Implement backup and recovery strategies to protect against data loss and ensure business continuity.

5. Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security standard methodologies, access controls, and database auditing mechanisms to protect data integrity and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational policies.

6. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve database-related issues, such as performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and data corruption. Collaborate with other technical teams and vendors to resolve complex issues.

7. Database Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor the health and performance of Oracle databases using appropriate monitoring tools. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as space management, database reorganization, and data archival.

8. Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain user documentation, including system configurations, installation procedures, and solve guides. Prepare regular reports on database performance, capacity, and other key metrics.

9. Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, system administrators, and network engineers to ensure smooth integration of database systems with applications and infrastructure. Share knowledge and standard processes with other team members.

Requirements :

  • Strong database administration experience on Oracle 19c or Higher Stable version and need to update himself/herself in the latest version.
  • Working experience of Oracle DB Replication to other Oracle Instance or Other DB Servers (MS-SQL / PostgreSQL/MySQL) instances.
  • Strong knowledge of Cluster setup in Active-Active / Active-Passive mode with Disaster recovery configuration.
  • Knowledge of Installation, configuration, Day-to-day monitoring, performance tuning, Log analysis etc. of the oracle database server.
  • Experience in RAC, ASM, and DATAGUARD.
  • Data structures / DB schema - advice on DB tables /data storage & retrieval - optimize performance.
  • Help application teams identify workflow optimizations – proactively.
  • Maintain and share web analytics & reporting - application and DB.
  • DB issues troubling shooting & Optimization - run time /periodic DB activities - monitoring indexes/ DB health.
  • Data backup and recovery, Archival and Restoration.
  • Database Access and privileges.
  • Monitoring high-cost DML operation and providing Optimization and Tuning.
  • Root cause analysis of issues and resolving, coordinating with team.
  • Assisting application teams to write data migration scripts (push/pull data) from/to other databases.
  • Advice application teams on data archival/ purging techniques/Recovery.
  • Devise methodology of central DB repositories like data centers.
  • Must have administered DB volumes in excess of 2 TB - for client/server and web based applications.
  • Exposure to Linux Shell Scripts, Cron Jobs, Apex & Perl Scripting.
  • Design and Develop OLTP and OLAP Systems.
  • Conversant with Linux and Windows family operating systems.

Skills (good to have)

  • Knowledge of JIRA, ServiceNow, SRs, RFCs, and My Oracle Support will be a plus
  • Knowledge of Exadata, Big Data and Database 21c will be a plus
  • Good communication, coordination and interpersonal skills
  • Strong Core Oracle Database knowledge (12c , 19c and 21c) including RAC/ASM/DR.
  • Strong SQL, PL/SQL and shell /Perl scripting skills
  • Basic knowledge on Oracle Fusion Middleware (e.g. WebLogic)
  • Knowledge of Cloud Environments (OCI, AWS or AZURE)
  • Knowledge on Enterprise Manager
  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle database technologies and architecture
  • Knowledge of standard processes in database management.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
