Position Title: Language Arts Teacher 

Salary Range: Contract Salary 

Contract Length: Contractual Year

Immediate Supervisor: School Principal 

BASIC FUNCTIONS : The language arts teacher will be responsible for providing effective instruction in Language Arts. Instruction must be driven by the common core standards. The teacher must implement learning activities that are relevant to the lives of the students. Students with IEPs will be mainstreamed in these classes. So the teacher must provide accommodations as written in the students’ IEPs. Also, the teacher will have to work effectively with a special education co-teacher and paraprofessional. As the lead teacher, it will be expected that the teacher will direct and supervise the paraprofessional. It will also be expected that the special education teacher and the language arts teachers will share in the planning of lessons and the delivery of instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Teach language arts according to the INdiana Department of Education Common Core Standards.
  2. Hallway supervision during passing periods.
  3. Success Class - math and language arts
  4. Maintain 8-Step Assessment Data
  5. Duties as assigned by Principal

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a valid License/Certification in Language Arts in grades 9-12, and Highly Qualified. A Master's Degree or higher is preferred.

Previous experience in an urban high-school setting, preferred. 

Experience teaching varying levels and areas of high-school English Arts courses required. 

A candidate must not have had a recommendation for Probation Assistance on their most recent evaluation.

Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with students, faculty and administration.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other technologies and office equipment, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling; bending at the waist; lifting; pushing; pulling and carrying equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard; emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read; prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.
