UPMC Montefiore is seeking a skilled and dedicated Full-Time Medical Assistant, Expert to join their team on 9 South. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical professional to contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting healthcare providers and ensuring seamless patient experiences. This position features 4, 10-hour shifts (7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.) Mondays - Fridays (no weekends).
- Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
- Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
- Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
- Accompany and assist patients to exam/procedure room.
- Collect patient information/history; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
- Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs.
- Assist physicians with procedures.
- Document patient information into the medical record.
- Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
- Collaborates with care team members to reach population health management goals of improving patient access to care, reducing number of emergency visits, and decreasing readmissions.
- Telephonic outreach to patients discharged from the hospital or emergency room to schedule follow up appointments and review medications and treatment plans.
- Make referrals to members of the extended care team and/or notify provider of post discharge needs or discrepancies in plans of care.
- Assist management staff with supervisory activities.
- Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance.
- Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Schedule appointments.
- Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) and maintain strict confidentiality
- related to medical records and other data.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or equivalent hospital program, OR successful completion and maintenance of certification examination and 1 year of patient care experience, OR two years of direct patient care experience required.
- Successfully complete the UPMC preceptor training and serve as a preceptor and mentor to newly hired team members.
- Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks.
- Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- In lieu of the MAS, relevant bachelor's degree accepted.
- In lieu of the MAS, relevant bachelor's degree accepted.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
