Job Summary: 

Crooked Media is looking for an LA-based producer for the weekend edition of What A Day and a co-producer for our show Offline. The ideal candidate is an established news producer with a sharp news sensibility, strong editorial judgment, and innovative approaches to audio storytelling. The candidate must have a clear idea of the Crooked brand, exceptional skills in talent management, an ability to work under deadline pressure and high-level audio production knowledge.

Crooked has adopted a hybrid work model for our entire staff. We believe that the best work is done in a hybrid capacity as it combines the flexibility of working from home with in-person collaboration. We are ideally looking for Los Angeles-based candidates, or candidates willing to relocate within the first 3 months of accepting an offer. 

How You’ll Spend Your Time:

Programming Production Supervision

  • Guiding editorial direction and execution of weekly podcasts, brainstorming ideas for segments and guest interviews
  • Running show planning meetings
  • Prepping hosts with research and interview notes
  • Booking and scheduling of hosts, guests, and show records
  • Scripting and editing podcast scripts
  • Identifying and pulling archival tape
  • Liaising with producers and engineers on notes and edits for final cut for podcast distribution
  • Updating scripts and jumping in on reporting in breaking news situations
  • Providing quality control over final show episodes prior to release
  • Uploading podcasts to Simplecast and Wordpress
  • Contribute to cross-departmental efforts to build, and publicize our programming through video, social, design and marketing efforts

Daily News Content Development 

  • Participating in daily news meetings, including pitching ideas and segments 
  • Working closely with the Daily News team to report out segments when possible
  • Identifying opportunities to cross-publish reporting or interview excerpts 

What You’ll Bring To The Table:

  • 3+ years of news, radio, podcast, or TV production experience
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Strong editorial judgment about the news that matters and creativity in how to cover it
  • A passion and day-to-day interest in domestic and international politics and social issues
  • Understanding of journalism and journalistic ethics
  • Able to professionally navigate relationships with multiple hosts/talent
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and work under pressure
  • A self-motivated, proactive, collaborative, creative, accountable and kind attitude

Pay and Perks:

When we open up a position, we conduct a market analysis to ensure we have the most up-to-date data. Once we’re ready to extend an offer, we look at the individual’s years of relevant experience and other compensable factors to determine a competitive offer. And for this role, the starting salary range is $80,000 -$95,000.
