Essential Duties
1. Operates animal care processing equipment according to safety guidelines on either clean or dirty side and/or specific washing center. Detects and reports malfunctioning and/or defective equipment. 2. Transports dirty caging to washing center to disassemble for proper cage wash processing. 3. Fills clean cages with measured amount of animal food and bedding and reassembles caging. 4. Provides clean supplies and equipment to research faculty and staff using animal facilities. 5. Performs cleaning and disinfecting of assigned areas throughout the animal research facilities. 6. May receive and put away supplies in appropriate areas. 7. May act as the driver’s helper to assist with moving equipment between facilities. 8. May assist in training and/or instructing staff on sanitation tasks appropriate to level. 9. Maintains accurate departmental support area record keeping. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
One year of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Position Focus:
Provide support services for the research faculty and staff in the Sanitation Unit within the Department of the Animal Resources Center. Duties will include processing animal cages using equipment in the Sanitation unit on either the clean or dirty side and/or specific washing center. Detect and report malfunctioning and/or defective equipment. Fill clean cages with measured amount of animal food and bedding. Process equipment through rack washer and autoclave. Fill water bottles, sanitize floors and wall, may assist in training and/or instructing staff on sanitation, maintain required activity logs and records. May perform duties as a driver assistant.

Launder personal protection clothing.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and push or pull up to 300 pounds.
Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician certified by American Association of Laboratory Animal Science.
