SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Performs all phases of manual machining and some CNC machining, finishing and assembly in a job shop or high-volume applications. Processes components to meet print and/or geometric tolerance requirements. Responsible for the setup, operation and maintenance of production machinery, maintenance of proper documentation and support of the manufacturing engineering function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • May perform setup of manual machines and tool and offset changes on CNC machines.
  • Under general supervision, completes tasks as directed by SOPs, routers, prints, work instructions and manufacturing schedules.
  • Operates machining equipment with an understanding of machining and metal removal concepts which may include milling, turning, grinding and other methods.
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers and micrometers.

  • Adheres to dimensions and tolerances found on prints. May use prints and sketches to determine proper methods and processes.
  • Performs basic machine set up.
  • Performs basic selection and care of special machine tools such as drills, jigs, mills, lathes and fixtures.
  • Diagnoses basic machine problems using proper diagnostic tools.
  • Learns the maintenance of CNC program files.
  • Maintains machine maintenance files.
  • Reworks productions parts and performs emergency rework and/or modification of production parts as directed.
  • Modifies basic existing processes if necessary.
  • Inspects basic prototypes, machines prototype fixtures and First Article components.
  • Performs in-process checks using measuring devices and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department lead person or supervisor.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Trains other employees.
  • Works on projects as part of a team, exchanging ideas and contributing skills that complement those of the other team members. Fulfills commitments to team members.
  • May perform assembly, deburring, and other duties as required
  • May perform programming and operation of FOBA lasers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 to 5 years of related experience with trade school certification preferred where applicable.
  • Full knowledge of machinist role and substantial acquaintance with and understanding of the machining of routine parts.
  • Understanding of FDA device manufacturing requirements.
  • The employee may be required to periodically lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.

Position will use machining and metal removal equipment which may include milling, turning, grinding and other methods and measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers and micrometers.
