Job Overview

The primary responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Supervisor are to provide leadership to FSQ personnel and ensure compliance with Company food safety and quality standards for raw materials, processed products, and processing procedures are maintained. 

Responsibilities

1. Provide oversight to Quality Assurance personnel including training, scheduling, attendance, and guidance for continuous improvement

2. Plan, coordinate and provide corrective action follow-up for internal audits including GMP, foreign material (Glass, Brittle Plastic, Wood and Ceramic) and Food Defense.

3. Provide technical assistance to operations regarding process deviation reports and product specifications.

4. Oversee management of retained product and investigate, as needed, to determine final disposition of product under the guidance of the Manager of Quality Assurance.

5. Perform documentation review, HACCP verification activities (Pre-Shipment Review, Cook System Verifications (in RTE plants), Direct Observations) and SSOP monitoring activities (pre-operational and operational) as necessary.

6. Assist 3rd party and customer audits.

7. Execute the requirements of the environmental monitoring programs including weekly and monthly microbiological testing as required; taking appropriate actions to ensure compliance.

8. Communicate deficiencies and Continuous Improvement opportunities to Quality Assurance and Operations Management; support the CAPA and implementation of process changes

9. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

10. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

11. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

12. Promote, adhere, and be responsible for Food Safety and Quality.

13. Ensure the QA Leads and QA Technicians are properly following the prescribed procedures to comply with regulatory, customer, and company requirements.

15. Manager hourly staff regarding scheduling, PTO approval and coverage, timecard review, and ensure proper coverage of the areas of responsibility.

16. Provide support to the second shift FSQ team during shortages or outages, as needed.

17. Own the management of pre-requisite programs for calibration, pest control, environmental monitoring, CCP monitoring, pre-operational inspection, and internal auditing

18. Support and attend audits for the facility (FDA, BRC, USDA, and Customer).

19 Support Customer Complaint investigations.

20. Gain the knowledge of entering and tracking customer complaints using the Intelex system.

21. Support the Vendor Claim reporting process.

22. Ensure laboratory supply levels are maintained for operation of the laboratory.

23. Support foreign material investigations with cross-functional team members (Operations, Maintenance, Logistics).

24. Will be a member of the plant Food Safety Team and will attend the regularly scheduled meetings.

25. Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience in a USDA regulated meat manufacturing facility and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • OR
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.), HACCP/PC certification and process control training preferred.
  • Experience interacting with USDA FSIS onsite inspectors.
  • Experience in managing employees and providing strong leadership and mentorship.
  • Proven skills evaluating and implementing strategies that improve overall quality and profitability.
  • Experience in implementing and enforcing policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and assignments.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • An individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software such as Microsoft Word, and Spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel
