The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic Maintenance Team as an HVAC Specialist III to provide critical support for the operational maintenance and support of campus buildings. As an essential member of our team, you will troubleshoot HVAC-related issues, respond to requests from customers and staff, and ensure a safe, functional, and efficient learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced analysis and preventative maintenance on HVAC systems and related equipment to ensure continuous operation.
  • Develop proposals and provide enhancement recommendations for HVAC systems, performing complex repairs using BAS Controls knowledge.
  • Prioritize and respond to HVAC and BAS controls systems work orders, creating proactive work orders to maintain system functionality.
  • Act as a subject matter expert when working with complex issues, corrective repairs, and planned maintenance on various HVAC components.
  • Conduct technical repairs on pneumatic air systems, compressors, controls, cooling towers, boilers, and other HVAC-related equipment.
  • Administer, maintain, and develop UCF’s HVAC specifications, educating stakeholders and providing support within the UCF community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning; or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Class A or Class B air conditioning contractor license.
  • Advanced understanding of HVAC control theory, ladder logic, and control concepts.
  • Working knowledge of trades classifications and functions, including tools, materials, and maintenance sequencing.
  • Familiarity with Federal, State, and local safety regulations, including OSHA, Dept. of Health, EPA, ASHRAE, and the Florida Building code.
  • Strong communication skills in English and proficiency in using electronic equipment and standard safety procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply UCF guidelines, regulations, and policies.
  • Proficiency in using various computer programs, including Microsoft Office and IWMS.

Preferred candidate will have a certification in one or more of the following:

  • Air Conditioning/Electrical
  • EPA Section 608 Certification
  • Heat Pump
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration
  • 4-10 A Safety Certification.

Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Additional Application Materials Required:

Two (2) professional references from current or previous supervisor/manager.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

This position may require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to cover events and emergencies.

This position requires a valid Class E driver’s license and may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
