The Program Mgr plans and manages projects and/or programs, resource requirements, training needs, deliverables, and manages the design and testing of projects, inclusive of data management. May provide statistical analyses of quality improvement data.

Overview

The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) is a growing department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the mission of taking St. Jude to the world by training the clinical workforce, developing and strengthening health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advancing knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research.

Responsibilities

GPM is seeking a detail-oriented Program Manager to assist in the design, coordination, implementation, and oversight of global health policy and systems projects and initiatives within and for the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) and St. Jude Global (SJG). This pivotal role involves managing a portfolio of activities to strengthen health policies and systems to improve outcomes for children with cancer and catastrophic diseases: strengthening national and regional programs collating, analyzing and strengthening policies developing and implementing tools and engaging with diverse stakeholders to translate evidence and policies into coordinated actions. This key team member will help promote health policy and systems research and information dissemination, and act as a liaison with other members of GPM/SJG and global collaborators thus, the individual must be able to communicate clearly and foster trusting relationships. This is a unique opportunity to coordinate workstreams to promote health systems innovations in support of the St. Jude Global strategic vision, and help implement St. Jude activities, including as the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Childhood Cancer, and our technical role implementing and monitoring the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer.

The Health Systems Global Program Manager will be responsible for:

  • Developing strong working relationships across departments/leadership at St. Jude, WHO, and collaborator sites
  • Facilitating communication and implementation of initiatives with global collaborators, including agencies such as WHO (including other WHO Collaborating Centres and Non- State Actors working in Cancer-related fields), governmental stakeholders and other engaged leaders
  • Organizing and implementing workshops (national, regional, global), including liaising with stakeholders to achieve program objectives and meeting organization needs
  • Facilitating planning and coordination of site visits and implementation of multi-site health systems assessments
  • Developing and implementing standardized tools, frameworks, and metrics to achieve project deliverables
  • Working with team members across sites to ensure timely accomplishment of deliverables
  • Identifying and mapping key opportunities for health systems strengthening and innovations across sites, via syntheses of national policies, health systems assessments, site engagement, and workshops
  • Developing and designing compelling and audience-specific reports, research/policy briefs and messaging, with and for different groups of collaborators
  • Overseeing data syntheses (e.g., scoping & systematic reviews) and assisting with analyses of health systems and strategic implementation needs across operational levels
  • Facilitating written and spoken discussions in live meetings, presentations, and email/written communications
  • Maintaining program budgets and tracking spending
  • Aligning SJCRH mission, St. Jude Global Strategic Plan and global collaborative initiatives

Minimum Experience

  • Five (5) years of complex program management experience, preferably including time in health-related and resource-limited (low- and middle-income country) settings
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate multiple complex projects/work initiatives simultaneously
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-sector stakeholders in project planning and implementation
  • Experience designing and managing programs with a focus on customer needs.
  • Experience in program budget tracking, reporting and risk management.
  • Proven experience engaging with senior leaders to facilitate decision-making.
  • Experience providing guidance and mentorship within program management.
  • Some experience driving continuous program improvement projects.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Technical skills in global health systems
  • Experience in international and health care settings
  • Familiarity with general medical/health services/health systems terminology
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
  • Enthusiasm for collaborative efforts and learning opportunities openness and discernment to integrate feedback from team and other stakeholders
  • Flexibility in schedule to accommodate meetings across international time zones
  • Ability to synthesize data visually experience with data visualization an asset
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel internationally (estimated up to 25%), as needed
  • Cultural sensitivity is a must
  • Fluency in one of the other 5 World Health Organization official languages in addition to English preferred (Arabic Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish)

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health, public policy, epidemiology, or related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in public health, public policy, epidemiology, or related field preferred.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Program Manager, Health Systems (WHO).
