Job Description

As a vital member of our aviation team, we're searching for a skilled Second in Command (SIC) pilot. The SIC plays a crucial role by supporting the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) during all aspects of flight operations. This includes tasks like preparing the cockpit, reviewing flight plans, conducting pre-flight checks, and assisting with air traffic control communication as directed by the PIC. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to safety. They should also thrive in a collaborative environment and be eager to contribute to a successful and efficient flight experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in all aspects of flight operations, including:
  • Pre-flight tasks: preparing the cockpit, reviewing flight plans and procedures, conducting pre-flight checks.
  • In-flight tasks: monitoring and managing aircraft systems, navigation, and communication.
  • Adherence to regulations and procedures: ensuring compliance with flight regulations and procedures throughout the flight.
  • Safe and Compliant Operations:
  • Safely operate the aircraft in accordance with all applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain currency and proficiency in all required areas, including completing initial and recurrent training as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with air traffic control (ATC) and other parties as required.
  • Maintain and update aircraft logs and records as required.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Prioritize the safety of passengers, crew, and the aircraft at all times.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety by reporting any safety concerns or incidents promptly.
  • Communication and Crew Resource Management (CRM):
  • Manage radio communication with ATC, other aircraft, and ground personnel.
  • Relay critical information to the PIC and maintain clear, concise communication throughout the flight.
  • Collaborate effectively with the entire flight crew and ground personnel to foster a positive CRM environment.
  • Navigation and Documentation:
  • Assist in navigating the aircraft using both traditional and modern methods (GPS, autopilot, etc.).
  • Cross-check navigation data and ensure the aircraft remains on course.
  • Maintain accurate flight logs, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
  • Complete flight reports, fuel logs, and incident reports when necessary.
  • Customer Service and Teamwork:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to our clients.
  • Possess strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Maintain flexibility to work irregular hours and travel as needed.
  • Continuing Education:
  • Participate in regular training sessions, simulator exercises, and proficiency checks to remain current and competent.
  • Stay informed about updates in aviation technology, regulations, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Meet the minimum qualifications as specified in Federal Aviation Regulation Part 135.293 flight check.
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with single-engine, land certificate and Instrument rating. No minimum flight hour experience required. Turbo-prop experience preferred.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible to the Pilot in Command for piloting our aircraft safely and efficiently while providing exceptional customer service to our passengers.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the contents of the operations manual and have complete knowledge of all company operations and procedures related to the Pilot-in-Command position.
  • Must hold a valid aviation second medical certificate issued by an authorized aviation medical examiner.
  • Current driver’s license with an acceptable driving record that meets NANA’s insurance requirements.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors and outdoors operating in diverse climates including exposure to inclement weather.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high noise levels.

Description of environment: Diverse environments including office settings, airports, flight decks, and aircraft cabins.

Physical requirements: Possess adequate physical fitness to handle the physical demands of operating controls, performing pre-flight inspections, and handling emergency situations. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, is essential for visual navigation and instrument reading. Pilots should meet the medical requirements set by the appropriate aviation authorities.

Travel: Employee may travel up to 100% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.

Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: Possess a strong understanding of aircraft systems, navigation, and flight procedures. Demonstrate proficiency in assisting the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) with maneuvering the aircraft, navigation, instrument interpretation, and emergency response procedures.
  • Supportive Decision-Making: Effectively support the PIC's decision-making throughout all flight phases. Analyze factors like weather, aircraft performance, air traffic, and crew/passenger safety. Contribute to informed and timely decisions, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Situational Awareness: Maintain a high level of situational awareness alongside the PIC. Gather, process, and analyze information from various sources (instruments, navigation aids, communications) to build a comprehensive understanding of the flight environment.
  • Crew Resource Management (CRM): Foster a positive and collaborative crew environment. Share information effectively, contribute to collective decision-making, and support the PIC's leadership throughout the flight.
  • Safety Focus: Prioritize safety alongside the PIC. Demonstrate a deep understanding of safety protocols, procedures, and regulations. Actively identify and mitigate risks, promote a culture of safety reporting, and make safety-conscious decisions throughout the flight.
  • Clear Communication: Maintain clear and concise communication with the PIC, air traffic control, other aircraft, and ground personnel. Possess excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills to ensure accurate information exchange.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Effectively assist the PIC in problem-solving during unforeseen circumstances or emergencies. Work collaboratively to assess situations, identify solutions, and adapt plans as needed, while always prioritizing safety.
  • Professionalism and Teamwork: Uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct. Adhere to regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, accountability, and teamwork to contribute to a successful and safe flight operation.
