Railcrew Xpress (RCX) primary purpose is to provide safe dependable, reliable transportation to the members of railroad crews. The transportation service we provide is vital to the operation of the railways and we take pride in the service we provide. As a member of RCX you will be transporting railroad crews to various locations based on their needs. This position is for those that want to help maintain our railroad systems and ensure that the safety of all involved is delivered. Due to the safety and security needed around the railroads, the minimum requirements for Drivers are:

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Current valid state issued driver's license
  • Preferably live within a 20-25 minute distance of location
  • On call position that allows you to create your own schedule

Job Types: Full-Time and Part-Time

Pay: $15.00 per hour

This position is responsible for providing driving services. The principal responsibilities are the effective and timely transportation of client crew members and the safe operations of their assigned vehicles.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Performs a complete pre-trip inspection of the vehicle assigned to him/her by dispatch at the beginning of his/her trip or shift, or any replacement vehicle issued during the duration of his/her trip or shift.
  • Perform a complete post trip inspection of the vehicle assigned to him/her as the vehicle is returned.
  • Continuously monitors vehicle operation during the duration of his/her trip/shift so as to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle at all times.
  • Keeps the vehicle inside and out in a condition of cleanliness acceptable to RCX standards. Monitors and ensures the cleanliness of van assigned to trip/shift as needed.
  • Ensures, during the embarkation and disembarkation of crew members that the vehicle is:
  • In park.
  • Motor shut off.
  • 4-way flashers are on.
  • Professional Driver is first out of the vehicle.
  • Opens doors to assist crew members in and out of the van.
  • Opens doors to assist crew members with baggage.
  • Pulls over and stops van in a safe manner when needing to communicate via electronic device.
  • Communicate required shift and trip information.
  • Ensures all RCX safe driving standards are followed, including, but not limited to:
  • Get out and look (GOAL) prior to any backing maneuvers.
  • Assess safety prior to crossing rails in yard and/or roadways.
  • Follow the 4-second rule while following another vehicle.
  • Adhere to posted speed limits and adjust speed based on conditions, including but not limited to, irregular operations, adverse weather and deer seasons.
  • Follows state or federal driving laws including, but not limited to, seatbelts and attentive driving.
  • Adhere to all company policies related to fatigue management and Hours of Service.

Secondary Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains proper contact with the dispatchers and closers as required.
  • Accepts all trips/shifts promptly as they are dispatched.
  • Conducts his/her personal and business life such that he/she has enough hours to complete assigned trips/shifts without violating hours of service limitations.
  • Maintains proper dress and personal hygiene standards acceptable to RCX.
  • Keeps adequate records as required and remits promptly to the closers to accurately account for the metrics of the trip taken, including stops, waits and mileage incurred during the trip/shift.
  • Coordinates with dispatcher on arrival at destination, Professional Dispatch Supervisor (PDS) in Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) areas when dropping crew members at an MPV hub to ensure any backhauls can be accommodated in the most economical way.
  • Uses RCX app to communicate, open and close every dispatched trip.
  • Controls and is accountable for all fuel expenses assigned to his/her unique and specific fuel card.
  • Ensures RCX cellular phone is used only for business calls, if provided.
  • Ensures vehicle is parked in the designated hub in a fully fueled, clean condition ready for the next trip/shift assigned to the next driver.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, injuries or vehicle damage, immediately. Whenever possible file a police report for an accident/incident involving another vehicle or if there is a crew on board.

Minimum Requirements

  • Maintain a current valid state issued driver’s license issued by the state of residence.
  • Less than two (2) moving violations within the last three (3) years.
  • No careless, reckless or failure to control violation in the last five (5) years.
  • No driving under the influence convictions in the previous seven (7) years.
  • No record of drug or alcohol-related convictions within the previous four (4) years.
  • No auto theft conviction in the last seven (7) years.
  • Employees or applicants required to report on a sex offender registry will be reviewed for any disqualifying factors or crimes of concern.
  • Must be cleared by eRailsafe or background report required by the company. A felony conviction within the last seven (7) years, released from a penal institution within the last five (5) years or crimes of concern may be disqualifying factors.
  • Must have valid passport or border crossing documents (where required).

Computer Skill Requirements

  • Ability to use electronic devices and programs to communicate, onboard, train and submit required shift and trip information, etc.

Physical Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Position requires extended periods of time sitting, usually driving, or waiting on crew.
  • Ability to bend, stop and stretch to complete vehicle inspection.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit company vehicle.
  • Ability to safely fit behind the wheel and properly wear seatbelt.
  • Employees must be able to meet the physical requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act’s, Section 391.41 (if required) by submitting and passing a DOT physical examination.
  • Ability to hear instructions and directions over the phone, navigation system and/or radio in English.
  • Submit to and receive a negative drug and/or alcohol test.
