What’s the role?

We are looking for a dedicated and versatile Senior Backend Engineer I to join a multidisciplinary team, where you will work alongside native engineers to bring exciting features for our app users.

This is a full-time position reporting to the the Engineering Manager, App Enablement . In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support

This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Mexico City office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. You will be part of AppX, a product team within our Product Enablement Group, responsible for creating features to improve the experience of millions of users as they shop for nearly one hundred million listings on the Etsy Marketplace. What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Build solutions to help our nearly 100M buyers discover items from Etsy’s outstanding and diverse listing's inventory for their personalized shopping missions.
  • Prototype, optimize, and deploy large-scale product improvements that deliver key results.
  • Run A/B experiments to validate product improvements.
  • Collaborate with product managers, product designers, analysts, researchers, and other full-stack engineers to deliver optimal content to our buyers.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • 3 to 5 years of professional Backend development experience, ideally in a product-minded environment.
  • Ability to operate within a large codebase and learn how to create simplicity from complex systems.
  • Understanding of what goes in creating APIs that are consumed by multiple platforms.
  • Product development experience with the ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
  • Strong debugging skills, allowing you to determine the source of issues in unfamiliar code or systems.
  • You are comfortable collaborating closely with your international teammates that include engineers, product managers, designers, and data analysts.
  • Experience in providing estimates or product ideas that will influence your team’s roadmap.
  • You are interested in the health and performance of the applications your team owns.
  • You can define and tackle unconstrained problems, and know when to seek help when no progress is being made.
  • Enthusiastic about why your work is important to users and how it relates to company goals.
