Lecturer Positions in the Composition Program, 2024-2025

The Department of English invites applications for full-time or part-time Lecturer positions in the Composition Program for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Annual base salary for full-time lecturers is $66,259, with benefits available to appointees who meet eligibility requirements (for more info go to: http://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/compensation-and-benefits/eligibility/index.html).

This term appointment falls under the purview of the agreement between the University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Teaching Appointment: Eight classes (with some exceptions) over three quarters are equivalent to a full-time (100%) position. Part-time appointments vary based on need and availability. The service period for the academic year, three quarters, is:

Fall 2024

Service Dates: 9/23/24 - 12/13/24

Pay Period 9/12: 7/1/24 - 10/31/24

Pay Period 9/9: 10/1/24 - 12/31/24

Winter 2025

Service Dates: 1/02/25 - 3/21/25

Pay Period 9/12: 11/1/24 - 2/28/25

Pay Period 9/9: 1/1/25 - 3/31/25

Spring 2025

Service Dates: 3/26/25 - 6/13/25

Pay Period 9/12: 3/1/25 - 6/30/25

Pay Period 9/9: 4/1/25 - 6/30/25

Qualifications:

  • PhD (preferred) in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Writing Studies, Applied Linguistics, or a related field. MFA in creative writing, also considered.
  • Two (2) years of college-level teaching experience required, with experience teaching rhetoric and composition at the post-secondary level required. Experience in first-year composition preferred.
  • Second-language instruction certification and experience, experience teaching multilingual students, and facility with online instruction and instructional technologies will be valued in our search.
  • Current PhD, MA, or MFA candidates must have their degree conferred by the beginning of instruction, by September 23, 2024, to be eligible for employment.

  • Teaching Portfolio: Teaching portfolio should consist of a 1-2 page reflective statement of teaching, plus accompanying examples of your choice that together show how your own theoretical and applied approaches to teaching writing and rhetoric meet the learning objectives of UCI’s Composition Program courses.
  • Teaching Evaluations: Applicants who have never taught in the UCI Composition Program should include in their application one recent, complete, and representative set (i.e., one class/section) of teaching evaluations, including qualitative responses.
  • Two letter(s) of recommendation are required for applicants who have never taught in the UCI Composition Program, otherwise optional.
