The Opportunity

The Karen L. Smith Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (Faculty Center) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for an instructional specialist position. The position is a non-tenure earning, in-unit, 12-month faculty position reporting to the Faculty Center director. We are seeking someone with college teaching or educational development experience, or ideally both. This position pays a salary of $60,000. The position is in-person on the main Orlando campus.

Position responsibilities will include the following: 1) serving as part of the leadership team of the Faculty Center by collaborating to plan and deliver events and activities in line with the Faculty Center and university missions; 2) providing direct faculty support through one-on-one consultations and workshops in areas such as class management, teaching with technology, designing course-level assessments, and/or trending topics in higher education; 3) developing research-based faculty training materials for web and print; 4) conducting class observations and debriefing sessions for faculty members who request them; and 5) assisting with development and implementation of training programs for graduate students and adjuncts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution at the time of application.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to work effectively, efficiently, and equitably with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in a collegial environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) from an accredited institution by the start of the appointment.
  • Experience in faculty or professional development.
  • Extensive experience (2+ years) teaching at the college level.
  • Familiarity with research and practices related to cognitive science.
