SUMMARY:

The LPC/Post-Doctoral Resident position is a one-year placement to accrue hours and receive supervision towards licensure. The resident provides mental health, consultation, crisis intervention, training, and outreach services at CAPS. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Direct Mental Health Services: Provide some individual and group psychotherapy; a significant portion of direct services will be providing brief screening appointments for new clients, encouraging them to make use of appropriate resources on- or off-campus, and following up with these clients periodically; perform crisis intervention and crisis consultation for the campus; provide mental health assessment and evaluation services; make reasonable adjustments to scheduled appointments to meet requests for services; follow CAPS policies and procedures; adhere to appropriate ethical and professional standards.
• Case Management: Keep accurate and timely records of appointments (e.g., intake notes, progress notes, termination summaries) using the online Titanium record-keeping software; maintain confidentiality of records; consult with other professionals as needed to coordinate treatment; participate in regular CAPS clinical supervision meetings; follow instructions of clinical supervisor; consult with parents and on- and off-campus professionals with appropriate authorization; inform supervisor as soon as possible of students who may be at serious risk.
• Consultation & Training: Depending on degree level, receive one hour of supervision per 40 clinical hours provided by a board certified LPC supervisor or one hour of supervision weekly provided by a licensed clinical psychologist. Provide consultation, education, and outreach services to faculty, staff, students and parents on developmental, mental health, and harm-reduction/prevention issues; prepare and provide training seminars to university groups (e.g., residence life staff; academic advisors; first-year students)
• Other Duties: Cooperate with accountability and data collection systems; participate in University-wide and Division of Student Development programs (when possible); develop and maintain a network of effective working relationships with faculty and staff from other offices and departments; accept delegated responsibilities for special projects or committee assignments, as requested by supervisor. • Professional knowledge of adult and college student mental health issues
• Professional knowledge of mental health assessment
• Professional knowledge of suicide assessment, crisis assessment, crisis management and referral
• Knowledge of multicultural issues
• Knowledge of college student development issues
• Ability to read & complete clinical notes and records in a timely fashion using the computerized Titanium record-keeping system
• Ability to learn & use the computerized Titanium scheduling system for scheduling appointments, meetings and other activities
• Ability to learn and use word-processing and spreadsheet software.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Master's or Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, Counselor Education, or similar field required
• License-eligible as an LPC or Clinical Psychologist in the State of Virginia
• At least 1 year of experience providing mental health counseling services to young adults (18-25 years old) required
• Demonstrated knowledge and sensitivity related to anti-racism, social justice, multicultural issues, and ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups

Preferred experiences include any of the following:

• 1 or more years’ experience working in a college or university counseling center
• Interest & experience in brief therapy modalities
• Interest & experience in DBT, ACT, or similar treatment modalities
• Interest & experience working with underrepresented populations

WORK HOURS:

• Full-time, exempt position
• This is a limited term 10-month exempt position (August 1, 2024 - May 31, 2025)
• Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 7 (Hiring Range $54,413.00 to $72,093.00 annually)
