About the role - you will:

The Senior Corporate Counsel will provide legal support to multiple functional groups on a broad range of matters for our complex, global business.

This role will be based out of our Beijing, China office and will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Global Employment, based in the U.S.

  • Be the primary support for all employment law matters in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, with support from external counsel as required
  • Provide employment law support for other countries in APAC as needed and to coordinate with other colleagues in different locations globally
  • Support our Data Governance team and work on issues related to data governance and privacy in China and other countries such as policy review, data subject consent analysis, and privacy impact assessments
  • Be appointed as one of the Company’s Regional Compliance Officers primarily for the China region
  • This element of the role will have a wide variety of compliance related responsibilities to support Seagate’s Ethics & Compliance Program, such as handling ethics and compliance questions from leaders and employees in APAC, developing and delivering training, supporting audits and other initiatives in key compliance areas such as antitrust, trade compliance and anti-bribery/anti-corruption, as set forth by the Compliance and Ethics Team 
  • Be a generalist who is able to effectively collaborate with colleagues around the world and to provide legal advice that appropriately balances domestic and international perspectives and requirements
  • Stay abreast of legislative, regulatory and judicial developments that may affect the compan
  • Take on other duties per the discretion of management

About you:

  • An excellent communicator with ability to work independently while coordinating with management and colleagues in other time zones
  • Demonstrate initiative to identify areas for process improvement, take on projects and drive to completion
  • Communicate effectively with senior internal and external personnel
  • Successfully collaborate across multiple sites with peers to produce results
  • Demonstrate ability to handle highly confidential information with appropriate discretion
  • Proven time management skills and ability to prioritize and utilize resources as available
  • Capacity to work independently, as well as part of a team, with exceptional interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, unquestionable ethics and integrity, and sound judgment
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, write clearly and concisely, and manage tasks to deadline
  • Organized and hard-working, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure

Your experience includes:

  • Law degree or equivalent and admission to practice law in the People’s Republic of China
  • 5+ years of post-qualification experience
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to coordinate across time zones
  • Prior experience working for a multinational corporation with operations in China

  • Hybrid work schedule with 2-3 days on site
  • Special circumstances may require an increased on site presence from time to time 
  • As we are a global team, there may be occasional required meetings outside of normal work hours in China.
