GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT

The Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) at Massachusetts General Hospital seeks a full-time Research Assistant (Clinical Research Coordinator) to join our research team.

The successful candidate will work on multiple clinical and genomic epidemiology studies. The position entails literature review, supervised data abstraction and curation, working with large cohort studies including biobank and laboratory data, population surveys, and other publicly available data.

The Research Assistant will work with Leland Hull, MD, MPH (DGIM, Harvard Medical School) to obtain, curate, and analyze data to understand population uptake of various genetic tests, with a focus on reproductive carrier screening.

The candidate should be highly motivated. Ideally, the candidate will have experience with and/or a solid coursework foundation in most or all the following fields: quantitative methods, statistics, molecular biology, and epidemiological research. The responsibilities of this individual will be to collaborate with clinical investigators among all phases of the research process, from proposal development including conducting background research, to obtaining, curating, and analyzing data, to supporting manuscript preparation and submission. The position requires attention to detail and working independently to solve problems.

We are seeking a candidate for a period of at least one year, but ideally two years. This position is ideal for a candidate interested in pursuing graduate studies in a related area (e.g., MD, PhD in computational biology, statistics, health policy, epidemiology).

Examples of current projects include:

  • Ascertaining and analyzing laboratory and census data to understand use of carrier screening in the preconception versus prenatal periods.
  • Quantifying patient preferences for different ways to deliver carrier screening prior to pregnancy.

  • Developing analytic datasets
  • Supporting data analysis for projects including observational and medical record-based cohorts
  • Working with investigators to develop and test hypotheses and design appropriate statistical analyses
  • Working with investigators to develop programs to enhance data quality control in active studies
