External Affairs (EA) is the intergovernmental division of the agency and manages DCWP’s relationship with City Hall, elected officials, government entities, and community and faith-based organizations. EA is responsible for these relationships to ensure that the agency speaks with a singular and consistent voice to external stakeholders.

EA is seeking a results-driven, self-starting individual to serve as a Community Coordinator / Legislative Analyst, under the supervision of the Director of Legislative Affairs. the Legislative Analyst’s duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Representing the agency at community events and public meetings, to promote the agency’s policies.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with essential community members including, but not limited to, residents, elected officials, consumer and worker advocates, and businesses industry associations;
  • Monitoring proposed legislation and regulations related to consumer and worker protections impacting New York City’s underserved communities;
  • Coordinating DCWP’s participation in public hearings before legislative or regulatory bodies, including drafting public testimony and related documents outlining the agency’s policies on behalf of underserved communities;
  • Directing DCWP’s efforts to request, gather, and transcribe oral and written comments from community members, including but not limited to, residents, advocates, and industry stakeholders, on DCWP’s proposed amendments to the Rules of the City of New York.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
