Overview

TRC is actively seeking a highly motivated Civil or Environmental Engineer to support our growing Environmental, Construction & Remediation practice in New England (and beyond) managed from our Lowell or Boston, MA offices. 

This position offers a flexible remote/office work arrangement potential. 

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of Mid to Senior-level Project Managers/Project Engineers to scope, cost, plan, and execute engineering design projects;
  • Developing construction documents (drawings, specifications and cost estimates), and providing bid assistance (preparing bid sheets, and reviewing contractor bids);
  • Completing engineering calculations;
  • Grading, drainage and site layout design and analyses;
  • Construction quality assurance (CQA) and oversight;
  • Interpreting data, conducting analyses, comparing findings to regulations to ensure compliance;
  • Contribute to the authorship and review of technical documents, reports and designs, ensuring consistent delivery of work products associated with assigned tasks;
  • Support the evaluation, design and implementation soil and groundwater remediation systems, including supporting rationales and components of cost estimates;
  • Support the preparation of permit applications;
  • Prepare for work activities, e.g., plan field work, develop work plans, and coordinate with subcontractors and clients as outlined by Mid to Senior-level Project Managers;
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow junior engineers and other disciplines (e.g., hydrogeologists, geologists/geotechnical engineers, environmental scientists, structural, etc.) to meet project goals;
  • Approach training and development efforts and coaching offered by TRC with energy and intentionality;
  • Expect and adapt to diverse work assignments often running simultaneously and at different stages and paces;
  • Maintain a billable utilization target and perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget for the scope of work and schedule with minimal to modest levels of supervision;
  • Qualified candidates must be comfortable with periodic regional travel and client support;
  • Following TRC’s safety, quality, and project management programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering;
  • 1 to 3 years of civil or environmental engineering experience. Educational experience will be considered;
  • Understanding and applying basic engineering principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to support the development of solutions for technical problems with limited scope and budgets;
  • Ability to work independently or in a project team with demonstratable clear written and oral communications, presentations, analytical, professional judgment, and collaborative skills;
  • Ability to grasp scientific concepts and apply them to technical challenges in a principally self-directed manner;
  • Ability to learn through on-the-job experience;
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to travel for project work up to 15% of the time (overall);
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • EIT certification or ability to get within one year of employment;
  • Possess a mechanical aptitude to support the installation and/or troubleshooting of mechanical and treatment systems;
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and relevant engineering software;
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS and Microsoft Project or equivalent project scheduling packages a plus;
