SUMMARY OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 

This is a per-diem/as-needed grant funded research position. This individual would help interact with participants with speech impairments due to conditions like ALS or stroke, in a research context. They will aid in study recruitment, attending local clinics, explaining the research study to potential participants, and helping determine eligibility. They will take the role of assessor in a speech research study, providing ratings of the participants speech impairment severity.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Aids in recruitment of research participants. Attends clinic to meet with potential participants with speech impairments, explain the study to them, and determine if they would be a good fit for the study
  • Guides research participants through speech research study sessions
  • Conducts standardized speech assessments with research participants according to research study protocol
  • Uses clinical experience to provide speech severity ratings for participant speech
  • Provides feedback on study procedures during research project group meetings
  • Contributes to analysis of data resulting from research study sessions, such as by scoring speech assessments according to the study protocol. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS 

While this is not a clinical role (there is no clinical responsibility and no contact with patient as a clinician), the requirements of this research project dictate that the person in this role have a speech language pathologist (SLP) degree.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 

  • Experience working with individuals with speech impairments, as a speech language pathologist
  • Maintains a good rapport with patients and research participants
  • Good communications skills
  • Experience working in a research environment is a plus but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS 

This individual will work a combination of remotely, and in general office conditions at our1 Constitution Plaza Street Boston MA location.

TRAINING/TIME REQUIRED TO LEARN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This individual would undergo training specific to the research protocol in question, and would be expected to be fully trained and ready to take on job responsibilities after 1-2 weeks of training.
