Starkey Hearing is hiring a Mold Maker - Class B at the global headquarters in Glencoe, MN. This position will provide support to the Injection Lab group in the areas of preventative maintenance, mold change over, and repair. This position will also assist the general machining group when needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

  • Perform preventative maintenance on plastic injection molds.
  • Disassemble and clean all injection mold components. Reassemble for production run.
  • Perform plastic injection mold part change over, as directed by the injection lab.
  • Change over mold components to correct part configuration as direct by the injection lab.
  • Build fixtures, prototypes and machine parts as directed.
  • Operate CNC mills, saws, drill presses, manual milling machines, manual lathes, surface grinders, handheld tools, as well as all other foundational Machine Shop equipment.
  • Document and record all jobs.
  • Know and be proficient in the use of all software related to Machine Shop recordkeeping including but not limited to the JobBoss software.
  • Work towards continual improvement on an ongoing basis.
  • Actively participate in process improvement teams.
  • Check and verify the quality of work performed.
  • Use Machine Shop inspection equipment to verify work accuracy.
  • Perform repair on injection molds as needed.
  • Evaluate injection molds on a case-by-case basis and perform repairs using foundation Machine Shop equipment.
  • Assist Class “A” Mold Makers in mold build activities.
  • Work cooperatively with, and take direction from Class “A” Mold Makers in all mold build activities.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements 

  • Education 
  • Technical degree in Mold/Die trades or equivalent required
  • Experience 
  • 4 years total combined experience in the building, repair or maintenance of injection molds required.
  • Experience understanding and operating all foundational tool room equipment and “specific” machine tools to achieve departmental goals.
  • Experience/training on current Microsoft computer software (Word, Excel, etc.) that allows for the communication and data management of an office environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with coworkers, vendors and customers.
  • Have the ability to work effectively with others on team-oriented goals that are driven in a time sensitive manner.

Knowledge / Technical Requirements

  • Technical skill in the maintenance of injection mold tooling.
  • Technical understanding of mold design concepts.
  • Technical understanding of material chemistry.
  • Technical understanding of injection mold processing.

Competencies, Skills & Abilities

  • Communication skills both written and oral to promote ideas and report information.
  • Ability to adjust priorities and reset timelines based on the dynamic needs of the organization on an hour-by-hour basis and achieving delivery requirements.

Work Context

Working Conditions 

  • The work environment will be typical of those found in most office environments and Machine Shops. This does imply that exposure to machine tools through use and/or proximity to them will result. Consequently, the use of safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection may be required.
  • Regular attendance and responsiveness to reasonable job-related directive given by the Machine Shop Lead/Manager will be required.
