SAR Academy, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational day school in Riverdale, NY is now accepting resumes for for a full-time full-time licensed Clinical Psychologist, licensed Clinical Social Worker, or BCBA, for the 2024-2025 school year to work within our Early Childhood and Lower School divisions.

About Pisgah

Pisgah is SAR’s integrated support program, whichcombines the need for intensive support with the benefits of learning as part of the whole-school community. Pisgahoffers children the support of a full-time Special Education teacher, along with related providers, while also allowing them to learn in a General Education classroom. This hybrid approach allows for strong peer models as well as the intensive support a student may need. Pisgah is the Hebrew word for summit, and reflects SAR’s commitment to ensuring that students are given the support they need to climb their own personal mountain, and reach their own personal summit, in an educationally and socially supportive community environment.

The Pisgah psychologist works closely with other members of the Pisgah team, composed of Pisgah Special Education teachers and assistants, Occupational Therapists, and Speech-Language Pathologists. The psychologist will have an important role in creating behavior plans, delivering direct clinical services to students (including individual and group counseling), supporting teachers, and collaborating with parents. Expertise in the social, emotional, and cognitive development of elementary-age children is critical. Successful experience teaching social-emotional curricula, using diverse approaches for developing early executive skills among children, and implementing social problem-solving are preferred. Familiarity with individualized approaches to teaching and learning, and the ability to interpret neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations is important.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a caseload of about 20-25 students.
  • Conduct weekly individual counseling sessions, group social skills sessions, and provide push-in support in the classroom.
  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Develop individualized student behavioral plans to address behavioral dysregulation in the school setting, and to promote prosocial behaviors and positive student skills.
  • Lead meetings with other faculty on children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Collaborate with other members of SAR guidance in the Early Childhood and Lower School divisions, and serve as a liaison to clinicians in the community.
  • Collaborate with Pisgah teachers, and support them as needed.
  • Collaborate with parents, and support them as neededMaintain appropriate documentation and complete bi-annual Progress Reports for each student on the caseload.
