Pharmacy Tech II Per Diem Rotating Position Summary

The individual in this position will assist in preparing, packaging, delivering, and charging of medications, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Position duties include the following activities: 

  • fill and label medications
  • stock medications into pharmacy inventory 
  • restock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs)
  • maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications
  • deliver medications to patient care areas 
  • attend to medication requests and phone calls 
  • prepare IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products
  • assist in Pharmacy quality assurance activities
  • comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures 
  • assist pharmacists and supervisors in performing various duties as assigned.

THE PHARMACY TECH II PER DIEM ROTATING CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent GED

PREFERRED EDUCATION: Completion of a certified pharmacy technician training program or pharmacy technician experience.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of pharmacy experience and performance equivalent to one (1) year hospital pharmacy experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred with training and experience in sterile (IV) compounding. Good organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and basic computer skills preferred.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Licensed in the State of Arizona as a Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Technician certification.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional periods of above average pressure. Must have basic computer skills. Excellent customer service skills. Must be willing to work in all areas of the pharmacy services as assigned. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with team members required.

Required: 3 years of pharmacy experience

Preferred: 2 years of hospital experience

Certifications:

Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacy Technician certification, as required by state law. Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification

Physical Demands:

Lift/position up to 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 50 lbs. of force. Frequent standing and walking. Frequent reaching, stooping, and bending. Manual dexterity, mobility, touch, auditory to perform all the related duties of the position.

This individual’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner. Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner. Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately. Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records. Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins. Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas. Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Attend to medication requests and phone calls. Prepare complex IV admixtures (i.e., chemotherapy, biotherapy) accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USPless than797> and USPless than800>). Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures. Assist in performing various duties as assigned.
