The Department of History at the University of California, Irvine announces part time, non-tenure-track Unit-18 Faculty ("lecturer") positions for the 2024-2025 academic year. We are seeking candidates with strong teaching credentials who can contribute to our undergraduate program in the following areas:
HISTORY 15A. Native American History
A lower-division lecture course focused on Native American history in North America, emphasizing Indigenous perspectives and creative adaptations to changing historical circumstances. Topics may include sovereignty, settler colonialism, treaties, decolonization, Indigeneity; cultural, economic, religious, environmental practices and experiences; and intersections of U.S. and Native histories.
History 169: Topics in Latin American History
This is a variable-topic upper-division course focused on the History of Latin America. Studies in selected areas of Latin American history. Topics addressed vary each quarter. Past offerings include "Mexico: Past & Present", "Central American Revolutions", "Religion in Latin America", "Mexican Pop Culture", etc. Course topics should be proposed by the candidate.
History 173G: Topics in Korean History
This is a variable-topic upper-division course focused on the History of Korea. Topics include the cultural, political, economic, social, intellectual, and religious history of Korea. Past offerings include "The Two Koreas", "Korean Revolution", "Korea to 1800", etc. Course topics should be proposed by the candidate.
The Department of History would like to offer each of the above courses in Fall 2024. However, the actual quarter is flexible based on the availability of the chosen candidates. Please indicate in your cover letter what quarter(s) you would be available to teach.
