The Office of Equity & Compliance:

  • Reviews and investigates reports of unlawful discrimination and harassment.
  • Assists in addressing systemic concerns based on a protected class.
  • Ensures adherence to both federal and state laws on affirmative action and equal opportunity.
  • Maintains compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Position SummaryThe Equity and Compliance Investigator works across campus to address claims of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, sexual harassment, and failure to accommodate disabilities brought by employees, students, applicants for employment and members of the public utilizing PSU facilities, services and programs. When appropriate, the Equity and Compliance Investigator will investigate through a formal complaint process violations of PSU’s policies, including PSU’s Prohibited Discrimination and Harassment Policy, Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy, Reasonable Accommodation/Access Policy and Consensual Relationship Policy.

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of experience investigating complaints of discrimination and discriminatory harassment in Higher Education or 3 years of experience investigating complaints of discrimination and discriminatory harassment in Education.
  • One year experience in the following:
  • Experience serving underrepresented communities
  • Experience working in multicultural environments by functioning respectfully and effectively within the context of varying cultural beliefs, behaviors, and backgrounds. Sensitivity to the needs of diverse constituencies.
  • Knowledge of and experience with applications of federal and state laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Acti, Title IX of Education Act as amended, requirements pertaining to protected class discrimination, harassment, affirmative action and equal employment opportunity.
  • Exceptional oral communication and written skills
  • Ability to work effectively in both a team environment as well as independently
  • Experience working with large complex institutions
  • Exceptional ability to conduct effective and sensitive interviews with all relevant parties with a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in the area of conflict management and resolution
  • Honors the uniqueness of each individual, challenges stereotypes and promotes sensitivity and inclusion
  • Demonstrates consideration and appreciation for colleagues and the institution
  • Exhibits grace under pressure
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in working in higher education, particularly a large access campus
  • An understanding of the issues facing public higher education
  • Nationally Recognized Training on Title IX Investigation procedures, Civil-Rights Investigations, or Trauma-Informed practices.

Work Days/Hours Monday - Friday; 40 Hours/Week

Total Compensation Range & Benefits StatementSalary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.

The starting annual salary for this position will be between $69,876 and $80,904, but may be negotiated above this range, dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
