HSE - ENGINEER II

SUMMARY

This position functions as both an environmental engineer assisting existing staff in management of compliance activities at Aberdeen, as well as a process engineer assisting facility-wide operations staff with process studies, troubleshooting, implementation of new technology, etc. Will receive training in all aspects of environmental programs at Aberdeen facility. Responsibilities will increase commensurate with experience. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment and independent evaluation, selection and adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. All employees must demonstrate responsibility for quality and environmental stewardship in their job in reference to ISO 9001 and ISO14001 respectively.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Gain and maintain knowledge of all applicable federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of facility processes and procedures.
  • Assist in providing technical guidance to the facility to ensure compliance in all respects with existing environmental laws, regulations and permits impacting the environmental area.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to ensure employee understanding of environmental requirements.
  • Assist the Plant Leadership in securing all environmental permits as necessary for the facility.
  • Perform engineering tasks, such as process studies and troubleshooting, related to energy efficiency, emissions reduction, process optimization, and other areas as they arise.
  • Assist in the preparation of all daily, monthly and annual reports, mandated through various State and Federal environmental laws, regulations and permits.
  • Assist the Leadership with issues at other facilities as directed.
  • Performs ISO Audits.
  • Participate on non-environmental teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Chemical Engineer preferred.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated communications skills, both written and oral. 
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
