The Role

As a pivotal leader in the Market Access & Pricing and HEOR team, the Sr. Director, MA&P, for Rare Diseases will drive the strategic development and hands-on execution of access, reimbursement, and commercialization efforts for Moderna's innovative Rare Disease portfolio. This role demands a seasoned professional who can blend strategic vision with tactical expertise to enhance market access on a global scale, shape industry-leading pricing strategies, and integrate payer perspectives into clinical development. A key component of this role is the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration to set long-range plans, forecast market trends, and recommend pricing models that resonate with Moderna's mission to transform patient lives through groundbreaking therapies.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Strategic Leadership & Tactical Execution: Lead and influence the development and refinement of Market Access and Pricing strategies for Moderna's Rare Disease portfolio, ensuring seamless integration with broader commercialization efforts and hands-on involvement in the detailed execution of these strategies.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct comprehensive market access landscape analysis to identify trends and opportunities, advocating for strategic positioning that aligns with institutional customer needs while also diving into data gathering, modeling, and stakeholder engagement to inform your strategies.
  • Global Expansion: Drive the expansion of our therapeutics into new markets by designing global strategies and taking the lead on implementing these plans, ensuring adaptability to diverse market conditions and monitoring the impact of your efforts.
  • Pricing Strategy: Develop pricing, tendering, and contracting strategies that are robust and compliant, working in partnership with global colleagues to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration & Influence: Work closely and exert influence across Operations, HEOR, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Brand Teams to align global strategies with regional and local needs, maintaining hands-on involvement in strategic initiatives to ensure effective delivery and execution.
  • Industry Advocacy & Program Guidance: Support industry initiatives and engage with payer networks to enhance market access, while providing expert recommendations on program design and development plans, ensuring pricing strategies meet both market needs and brand objectives.

Key Deliverables:

  • Strategy Execution: Implement and oversee pricing, tendering, and contracting strategies that align with Moderna’s value evidence plans and contribute to achieving equitable and profitable market access.
  • Strategic Input: Provide strategic MA&P insights to inform planning processes and corporate decision-making, with a balance of strategic acumen and direct, hands-on operational expertise.
  • Leadership & Payer Strategy: Lead market access activities by analyzing market trends and developing strategies that optimize access and commercial success, while also overseeing strategic planning related to payer engagement. Use your influence to support value and access for development programs.
  • Market Access Leadership: Lead market access activities by analyzing market trends and developing strategies that optimize access and drive commercial success.
  • Brand Planning Support: Assist in annual brand planning, forecasting, and budgeting, providing informed pricing and access assumptions, with a direct role in shaping the financial and strategic outlook of the Rare Disease portfolio.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • M.S. or MBA required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the bio/pharmaceutical or vaccines environment.
  • At least 7 years of direct national responsibility within the Market Access function, encompassing Pricing, Reimbursement, Market Access, or Policy, indicating a depth of practical experience.
  • A robust scientific background, with proven experience in navigating early pipeline products, highlighting the ability to understand and communicate complex scientific information.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing Target Product Profile (TPP), development plan, and market access/early price recommendations.
  • A track record of developing and leading the implementation of strategic pricing, tendering, contracting, and negotiation, with experience in global pricing policy development, underscoring leadership and policy influence.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • An advanced degree in life sciences is preferred.
  • Demonstrated drive to improve patient access to therapies and achieve meaningful health outcomes.
  • In-depth knowledge of global healthcare policies, pricing regulations, and HTA processes, with a focus on key markets such as the US, Japan, Germany, and the UK.
  • Proven networking skills with the ability to develop strategic external relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with agility and prioritize under tight deadlines.
  • Experience collaborating with industry groups, reflecting a capacity for teamwork and influence.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to lead without direct authority.
  • Additional language(s) are a plus, aiding in global communication efforts.
