Together with Alfa Laval and Sparbanken Skåne Centre for Sustainable Enterprise Pricing (SSCEN), the Department of Business Administration, Lund University School of Economics and Management, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position for studies on sustainability reporting and business transformation.

Duties and responsibilities

The candidate will work and contribute within the research area PolicyImp, which is coordinated by SSCEN, Department of Business Administration, Lund University. The postdoc project aims to contribute to the development of theoretical and empirical knowledge about how companies adopt new sustainability rules (e.g. EU Taxonomy, CSRD, TCFD, TNFD) and how this affects sustainability reporting, decision-making, resource allocation and financial flows.

Empirically, the project focuses on studying existing sustainability policies, initiatives, tools, and practices, with a focus on sustainability reporting and how reporting practices support sustainable business transformation. The project will also include the development and testing of new tools and methodologies to strengthen and accelerate sustainability performance and align with the needs of companies and stakeholders' and authorities' sustainability reporting requirements. The research project is linked to ongoing research at SSCEN and the postdoc will be part of an international network of researchers studying various aspects related to the ongoing sustainability transformation of companies, the financial system and the political landscape.

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in developing this line of research with a deep interest and specialization in sustainability reporting and corporate transformation. The position is open to candidates who prefer qualitative as well as quantitative research.

A postdoctoral position gives you the opportunity to further develop your research skills, expand your expertise and gain further experience in your research area. It also provides opportunities for pedagogical qualification through teaching, up to 20% of working hours, and training in teaching and learning in higher education.

The postdoctoral position is a full-time, fixed-term position with a research obligation, based in Lund, Sweden. To meet the requirements for the position, the applicant is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the department's research activities. The position is financed by Alfa Laval AB and allows the opportunity to spend part of the working time at Alfa Laval in Lund.

Eligibility and qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral fellow, the applicant must have been awarded a PhD, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD. Proof that the eligibility requirement has been met must be received no later than the time the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to those who have completed their degree no more than three years ago, calculated from the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the degree may have been completed earlier. Special reasons include illness, parental leave, positions of trust in trade unions and service in the Swedish Armed Forces.

Requirements for the position are:

  • A PhD degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD degree in Business Administration or a related field of relevance to the subject area of the position, completed no more than three years before the end of the application period.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • A high degree of research expertise.
  • Demonstrated competence and interest in sustainability reporting and business transformation.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Documented experience of publishing (in academic journals) research related to the ongoing sustainability transformation.

Assessment criteria

For appointments to a postdoctoral fellow, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

The assessment primarily takes into account your scientific qualifications and abilities in the subject area. We also consider the relevance and feasibility of the research plan, as well as your experience, knowledge and personal qualifications. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within SSCEN.

About the employment

The employment is limited to two years according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral researcher (Swedish Agency for Government Employers). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in the career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research skills.
