Position Summary

Position Summary

Mental Health Therapist Acute LMHC (licensed mental health counselor) works with patients to promote optimum mental and emotional health.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Develop comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and clinical impressions responsive to age-appropriate patients/family needs and concerns.
  • Differential diagnosis of mental/emotional disorders using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
  • Diagnose biopsychosocial functioning, disability, and impairment for the age-appropriate patient/family.
  • Develop treatment intervention plans with clinical impressions. The plan is diagnostically driven, and outcomes focused with the patient/family and healthcare team.
  • Develop an effective working relationship with patient/family to engage, collaborate, advocate and problem solve in order to support and enhance their mental health strengths and functioning ability.
  • Utilizes differential diagnostic skills and employs various clinical treatment interventions included but are not limited to crisis

intervention, solution focused therapy, individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy, grief, and bereavement counseling, play therapy, sand tray therapy, EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy and mental status exams.

  • Initiate Baker Act.
  • Facilitate Marchman Act when appropriate.
  • Facilitates patient’s psychosocial adjustment along the continuum of care and transition to next level of care.
  • Provide mental health education, information, consultation, and professional support regarding patient/family needs to the

healthcare team members and colleagues within the department.

  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership in developing mental health services which respond to patient care demands.

Other Related Functions

  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of human growth and development of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations through educational opportunities and meet expectations set forth by hospital and departmental standards.
  • Pursue opportunities for obtaining continuing education as set by department policy.
  • Involved in strengthening the community through participation in local, regional, state, or national activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

Education/Training

Master’s degree from an accredited school of Social Work, Mental Health, Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy is required or related field.

Licensure/Certification

Maintains Florida state (Chapter 491 Florida Statutes) licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

Experience

Two (2) years of direct clinical experience preferable in a health or mental health setting with an emphasis on population to be served in the assigned area.
