Job Description

Job Summary

Provide residential and commercial underwriting expertise and support relating to Connecticut real estate transactions to policy issuing agents, company personnel, and customers of the Company related to the issuance of title insurance commitments and policies. Ensures accountable underwriting decisions are made using underwriting standards and guidelines. Develop and grow business relationships with internal and external customers to help support the Company’s strategic priority to become the premier title services company.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates title searches and insurance risk factors and must be able to justify and communicate underwriting requirements to counsel for buyers, sellers and lenders on real estate transactions
  • Responsible for evaluating risk and exposures to determine acceptability of business 
  • Solves moderately complex to complex problems and analyzes possible solutions using technical experience, judgement and precedents, while embracing creativity and out-of -the box thinking
  • Provides timely responses to inquiries and effectively communicates underwriting decisions
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues and provides guidance to less experienced team members
  • Determines premiums, terms and conditions based on established rules, rates and guidelines
  • Prepares and presents both in-person and virtual education seminars on various topical and timely real estate law and title issues
  • Is active and visible as subject matter expert in real estate law and title insurance in Connecticut by attending real estate industry and company functions as assigned
  • Performs a range of assignments and may lead projects within own discipline
  • Individual contributor working with limited oversight
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree and admission to the Connecticut Bar

Experience

  • 3+ years experience in real estate law with demonstrated real estate title knowledge
  • Transactional experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Pay Range & Benefits

$114,832.89 - $208,233.04 Annually

The base salary range provided is consistent with similar roles at the Company. The base salary range is not an absolute, but a guide, and actual offers will be based on the individual candidate’s knowledge, skills, education, experience, location, market conditions, and other compensation components. Depending upon all of the preceding considerations, the base salary may be lower or higher than the stated range.
