PMUK are looking for a Product Safety Test Engineer to join the HAD Quality Department, who will report to the Product Compliance Group Team Leader and will be responsible for ensuring all products are compliant to current safety legislation as specified in EN 60335 product safety standard by the Low Voltage Directive (LVD). This will involve carrying out testing to National & International Standards to ensure products meet all of the necessary safety requirements.

A good understanding of mechanical, electrical & software principles. Success in this role depends on managing own time effectively and ensuring all objectives are met in an efficient manner.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Safety Testing, Evaluation & Reporting Activities

  • Producing Test plans and associated Project Plans for compliance projects
  • Perform safety testing according to IEC 60335-1 and associated test standards .
  • Producing test data in the appropriate format.
  • Analysing data from testing against relevant standards
  • Generate technical documentation to support testing activities in the laboratories.
  • Production of photographs for test reports and records.
  • Compilation of accurate IEC Test Reports
  • Supervise the work of the Apprentices/Technicians with assistance from the CTF Senior Test Engineer.
  • Advising our R&D department on technical aspects of the safety standards when required

Quality Management System Activities

  • Help maintain an ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System.

Maintaining Compliance Laboratories:

  • Applying a 5S methodology to ensure that safe working and Health and Safety procedures are employed in the laboratory at all times.
  • Maintenance & Control of laboratory equipment
  • Assist in the advancement of the ongoing and continual improvement activities within the laboratories.
  • Where practical, design, fabricate and maintain test rigs (electrical/mechanical/software) used to carry out product/component testing.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education level and/or relevant experience(s)

  • Degree in an Electrical / Electronic Engineering discipline plus minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

Knowledge and skills (general and technical)

  • Experience in safety testing and a good understanding of IEC 60335-1
  • An understanding of the ISO17025 Quality System.
  • Good knowledge of all engineering disciplines.
  • Capable of reading and understanding technical drawings, schematics & appliance diagrams.
  • Good working knowledge of MS office programs.
  • Excellent communication & planning skills and an attention to detail.

Other requirements (licenses, certifications, specialized training, physical or mental abilities required)

  • Preferred full UK driving license as some travel could be required as part of this role.
