Position title: Graduate House Fellow

Salary range: See Table 18 for the salary range for this position. Salary is based on an annual full-time salary of $69,139.00.

Teaching Fellows will not be appointed for more than 50% time during the Fall and Spring semester.

Percent time: 25% - 50%

Anticipated start: Summer 2024 - May 17, 2024

Fall 2024 - August 16, 2024

Spring 2025 - January 1, 2025

Position duration: Duration may be up to one semester or a summer term.

Position description

The AFRO Hall Fellow (AHF) is an academic year position working 20 hours per week. The Fellow’s primary functions are to build a safe and inclusive learning community for residents of the Living Learning Community (LLC) and to support the academic mission of the University of California, Merced and Residence Education. The AHF will serve as student success coach for AFRO Hall Scholars. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing instruction of a one-unit first year seminar for LLC scholars that serves and is aligned to the mission of AFRO Hall outcomes, co-developing workshops and community building activities with team, weekly team meetings with AFRO LLC manager, AFRO academic advisor, and ResEd, hold office hours at least two hours a week, provide students with referrals to necessary campus resources, serve as a student liaison between the AFRO hall and the AFRO student organization, work with the larger AFRO team to prepare an annual report for AFRO Hall outcomes each semester, and co-develop and help implement marketing strategy for outreach and recruitment of incoming students.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications Qualifications (must meet all listed qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in the subject area or a related field
  • Meet all TF eligibility requirements; advanced to candidacy for Ph.D. degree
  • Maintenance of a qualifying grade point average
  • Academically eligible to hold the appointment (per UC Merced's Graduate Policies and Procedures Handbook)
  • Must be a registered UC Merced graduate student in full-time residence (registered for 12 units per term appointed; for summer appointment registered in 12 units in the previous term; incoming students for summer appointment have submitted the Statement of Intent to Register)
  • Must have passed an Oral English Proficiency Examination (if applicable)
  • Qualified candidates will have familiarity with residence hall communities
  • Skills in collaboration, judgement and decision-making; Ability to identify problems and implement flexible, creative solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening
  • Ability to balance and maintain multiple, competing priorities
