Researcher, CCIC/Gateway NMR

This position will serve as a Researcher CCIC/Gateway NMR at the shared Campus Chemical Instrument Center (CCIC) NMR facility at OSU and the National Gateway Ultrahigh Field NMR Center (Gateway) that houses the first 1.2 GHz NMR spectrometer in the nation.

Under the realm of the center’s leadership and direction, the individual in this research role will independently lead their assigned research initiatives and projects related to supporting the state-of-the-art facility instrumentation. In addition, the Researcher will implement, develop, and apply state-of-the-art solid-state NMR methods on CCIC/Gateway 1.2 GHz, 800 MHz, and DNP 600 MHz NMR spectrometers for structural and dynamic studies of proteins, RNA/DNA, polymers, and materials.

The Researcher will be considered a research expert in solid state NMR instrumentation and trains, advises, and actively assists research efforts of CCIC/Gateway NMR researchers/users, including graduate students and postdocs, on the use of NMR spectrometers, processing, and analysis of NMR data; initiates and leads projects and collaborations with internal users and external users from both academia and industry that take advantage of CCIC/Gateway NMR resources; participates as instructor in practical NMR workshops; publishes research in peer-reviewed journals; presents research and showcases CCIC/Gateway NMR at conferences (talks or posters); participates in grant writing for the addition, upgrade and replacement of CCIC/Gateway NMR hardware; reaches out and promotes NMR capabilities to OSU and national CCIC/Gateway NMR users by email, up-to-date website information, journals and social media; actively participates in CCIC/Gateway NMR seminars.

The Researcher assists with spectrometer maintenance, scheduling and monthly billing with other CCIC/Gateway NMR staff; collaboratively works with other CCIC/Gateway NMR research scientists to achieve the research missions of CCIC/Gateway NMR; promotes and ensures a safe, clean, and secure facility; participates as an early responder during any emergency situations in the NMR facility; performs other duties as assigned by CCIC/Gateway NMR director or associate director/staff lead.

Minimum Education Required:

Master's Degree, PhD, or equivalent experience required. 5-6 years of relevant experience required. 6-8 years of relevant experience preferred. Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or related field.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or related area with 5-6 years demonstrated ability as a productive researcher (i.e., the incumbent will typically have (co-)first authorship of publications of considerable interest and value to the field, presentations of research at major conferences in the field, and/or will have contributed inventions, new designs, techniques and their implementations which are of material significance in addressing important problems).

Extensive experience with the operation of Bruker NMR spectrometers, including Topspin and other common NMR software. Excellent computer skills (Linux operating systems, Windows, macOS); ability to work in close vicinity of strong magnetic fields and perform cryogen fills of NMR magnets; excellent communication skills to effectively interact with faculty and other researchers in a professional manner.

Desired qualifications:

At least 2 years of postdoctoral experience in the field or equivalent. Experience with dynamic nuclear polarization solid-state NMR. Experience with radio-frequency electronics and other NMR hardware and the maintenance of such hardware.

Additional Information:

We strive to offer a competitive salary. The targeted salary range for this position is $62,700 - $83,600. The actual offer for this position will be based on a combination of education, relevant work experience, and skill level.
