THE ROLE

Purpose and Scope:

As a Designer for John Varvatos, you will be at the forefront of creating remarkable fashion collections that reflect the essence of our brand. You’ll collaborate with a dynamic team of creative minds and have the opportunity to shape our collection from concept to completion with a main fabrication focus on Leather, Outerwear, Soft Jacket, Pants, Sport Shirts, and Denim.

Job Responsibilities:

As a vital member of our Creative Collective team, you'll play a pivotal role in crafting seasonal concepts and creating cohesive collections that redefine style.

Your creativity and technical expertise will shine as you bring initial concepts and sketches to life through detailed Tech packs for bulk production.

Your dedication to ongoing research will fuel productive design sessions, ensuring that we're always on the cutting edge of fashion.

Prepare presentation boards that tell the story of your designs and contribute to the conceptual development of our lines. Your ability to present ideas and influence the team will set our course for greatness.

Our brand thrives on worldwide inspiration. Conduct market research in fashion hubs like NY, LA, UK, Canada, and Europe to identify new trends, fabrics, and wash/finish techniques. Bring your findings to the COO through tear sheets, sketches, and samples that will ignite our creative spark.

Source fabrics, washes, and trims that not only align with our brand and current trends but also respect our price point.

Your keen eye for detail will shine as you complete design packages accurately, reflecting every relevant design detail, from sketches to thread, trim, and wash instructions.

You'll harness the power of tools like RLM, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop to bring your visions to life.

Work closely with our Tech Team to ensure design changes from fittings are promptly updated in spec sheets, ensuring precision in every garment.

Manage and adhere to our design calendar, and actively participate in all relevant product meetings. Your involvement will be key in shaping our future collections.

Assist with other responsibilities and projects as needed, and most importantly, articulate your designs passionately to the executive team.

Your enthusiasm will be infectious, driving our brand's creative vision.

Education and Experience:

While an undergraduate degree in fashion design or a related field is preferred, what truly sets you apart is your ability to sketch by hand with finesse.

Your technical knowledge spans leather, outerwear, denim, and wovens (shirts, pants, soft jackets). You're not just proficient; you're a master of Photoshop, Illustrator, and RLM. Your CAD design skills for sport-shirts are second to none.

Education and Experience:

• Undergraduate degree in fashion design or related field preferred
• Strong hand sketching
• Technical knowledge of yarn construction, yarn counts
• Understanding of Knitting techniques, machine gauges and stitch construction
• Strong computer skills, proficient in Photoshop, Excel and Word
• Strong CAD design for sport-shirts
