GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Mechanic II is to provide technical support for manufacturing equipment ( Softgel or Unit Dose), Facilities and the Preventative Maintenance Program. The individual will possess additional skills, expertise, and qualifications over a Mechanic I.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to keep the facility, production equipment and all support equipment in safe and operational working conditions according to OEM and OSHA guidelines.
  • Respond to all floor calls in a timely manner and complete tasks quickly and thoroughly.
  • Maintain up-time / downtime targets and assist in developing plans to improve.
  • Trouble-shooting problems and recommending solutions or improvements necessary to restore line operations. Seeks permanent solutions to identified root causes.
  • Complete assigned work orders (Preventative/Corrective Maintenance) in a timely basis.
  • Complete the Preventative Maintenance Program (PM) including relevant documentation under limited supervision. Assists in the design and development of PM’s.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance logs and documentation in accordance with SOP and cGMP guidelines;
  • Identify and complete process improvement initiatives including engineering and construction projects.
  • Work with auditors, vendors, and suppliers as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts.
  • Researches and obtains quotes for equipment, parts and services as needed.
  • Support and may lead the training of other employees.
  • Responsible to comply with all Company policies and procedures, including safety programs.
  • Perform set-ups or changeovers of equipment as necessary for production schedule;
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics as required.
  • Any other assigned tasks or duties, might require overtime and weekend work as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, and/or abilities required for the job:

  • Knowledge and experience with Dietary Supplement manufacturing and/or packaging equipment.
  • Strong mechanical background and the ability to assess problem areas and make necessary repairs.
  • Good problem-solving skills and be able to work independently or in teams.
  • Technical/mechanical background in mechanical repair and working knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Experience with various equipment/systems such as HVAC / Dehumidification Systems, Plumbing, Pumps, Rotary equipment, Boilers, Power tools, Welding and Fabrication, and machine shop equipment. May have certifications in the above equipment.
  • Proficient skills in reading, writing, and speaking in English;
  • Written and oral communications skills and basic math skills.
  • Effective planning & organizing skills; ability to handle multiple tasks/duties.
  • Proficient PC skills.
  • Attention to detail (proofreading work, forms, reports, drawings, schematics, etc).
  • Knowledge of Dietary Supplement cGMP and 21 CFR Part 111.
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships.
  • Ability to comply, interpret and support Company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing, maintenance and facilities support equipment.

SELECTION GUIDELINES

The appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are achievable through the following combination of education, work experience and training:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED Certificate; and
  • Vocational or trade school with certifications or apprenticeship training preferred;
  • Experience in an FDA-regulated industry is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of related maintenance and mechanical experience; or
  • Any combination of experience, education, and training that provides the level of knowledge, skills, and experience needed to successfully perform the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

The essential functions of this job require the employee to perform the following physical activities during the course of work:

  • Communicate orally with management, employees, co-workers, vendors, suppliers and the general public by telephone, in person, in one-on-one or group settings.
  • Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time during the course of the work shift.
  • Routinely required to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, reach, pull, push, and tilt objects in the performance of job function.
  • Requires the essential use of hands, speech, eyesight, and hearing.
  • Lifting limitations for this position: 50 lbs. May have to manipulate heavier items.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.
  • Periods of hot, humid, and dusty environment.
  • Noise level for this work environment is typically moderate to high. Some work areas require hearing protection for an 8-hour work day.
  • Periods of odoriferous environment.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Personal Protective Equipment provided as necessary.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to chemicals, solutions, detergents, or solvents that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, Fish, Shell Fish, Milk, Egg, Tree nuts, and Sesame.
