Shift: This position is hybrid. This position will work a mix of working on site and working from home. Hours are daylight, Monday-Friday. *Days and hours are subject to change. Office located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania 

Job Summary

As a key member of the Independence Health System Business Intelligence and operations team, the Business Analyst is responsible for innovative reporting analytics for dedicated service lines. Focused holistically on the service line, the Analyst is responsible for clinical, operational, and financial insights. By collaborating with the Business Intelligence and Finance teams, the Analyst will utilize data derived from data models to support and enhance the strategic initiatives of the service line. The Analyst will work closely with key stakeholders to identify problems and deliver effective solutions to analyze data in innovative ways. Qualified candidates will apply creative and outside-the-box solutions to address service line needs and develop data-driven solutions. Further, the Business Analyst is responsible for partnering with the Service Line leadership to deliver insights to improve the service line.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides expert analytical, financial, and project management support to for service line administrators and chairs.
  • Uses data models to create actionable insights to improve clinical, operational, and financial outcomes of the service line.
  • Works collaboratively with key stakeholders and Business Intelligence and Finance to scope, design, and implement ad hoc and routine analytic solutions to solve business needs.
  • Learns service line operations and proactively promotes analytic solutions to identify or solve problems.
  • Assists the service line leaders in managing the holistic financial picture, including variance explanation, budgeting, long-range planning, margin analysis, and business planning.
  • Creates presentations to effectively communicate the findings of detailed analytics, including review of assumptions and techniques used to generate output.
  • Innovates on efficiency of report generation, utilization continuous improvement techniques.
  • Actively pursues the use of data to make key organizational decisions, including providing non-technical audience with correct data concepts.
  • Maintains project planning tools and concepts.
  • Monitors operating performance against regional and national benchmarks.
  • Behaves as an agent for transformation including utilization of continuous improvement techniques to improve organizational reporting techniques.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and interprets results, trends, or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Collaborates with Business Intelligence data owners to connect cross-functional data to create a service line balanced scorecard.
  • Provides recommendations for operational or financial efficiencies and process improvements. Assists in change initiatives.
  • Interprets, researches, and analyzes findings to explain strategic or tactical implications on operations.
  • Designs and performs reports, visualizations, and statistical analyses – and being able to articulate the analyses to a non-technical audience
  • Collaborates with other departments to implement improvement initiatives.
  • Provides analysis and recommendations on financial implications of range of strategic and operational alternatives.
  • Develops variable sensitive models and management tools.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Business, Finance, Data Sciences, Healthcare Management, or related field.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in business intelligence, finance, analytics, strategy, or other applicable analytical roles.
  • Superior computer skills and relevant software experience.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills in all applicable programs, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Expert investigational skills, shows attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong leadership ability, organizational skills, critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of hospital practice.
  • Ability to work independently and lead complex projects and activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to present and communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience and leadership teams.
  • Solid customer-service skills; anticipates, understands, and addresses customer needs in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge in operational financial concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Business, Finance, Data Sciences, Healthcare Management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Healthcare setting.
  • Experience in Tableau or other data visualization software.
  • Experience in advanced analytics.
  • Experience in SQL reporting.
  • Advanced project management experience.

License, Certification & Clearances

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), OR Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) member preferred.
  • Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
  • Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
