Position Description

Information Technology Services (IT Services) provides high-touch, high-quality customer service to our community of faculty, staff, and students. We are looking for a results-oriented, service-focused Systems Engineer 2 to bring bold new ideas, courage, and a pioneering spirit to invent the future and have fun along the way. The Systems Engineer 2 assists in developing, maintaining, and supporting the university’s technical infrastructure of cloud services, hardware, and system software. You’ll work in a small team and play a crucial role in managing Intune, Apporto, and endpoints. This position is eligible for hybrid work with at least one day on campus per week. Career development: if you are interested in leadership, this position can grow into a technical/team lead. 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Design, configure, and manage Microsoft Intune environment to support endpoint management, application deployment, and security policies. 
  • Implement and maintain Intune-based solutions for device enrollment, provisioning, and management across various platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. 
  • Support the Apporto (branded as Redhawks Lab), our cloud-based virtual lab environment that delivers applications (Matlab, Mathematica) for our students and faculty. 
  • Collaborate with security teams to identify and mitigate endpoint security risks, vulnerabilities, and compliance gaps. 
  • Collaborate with product and project teams to understand needs and enable them with infrastructure (cloud and physical). 
  • Optimize and tune system performance as appropriate. 
  • Participate in root cause analysis, debugging, support review, post-incident analysis, and corrective action planning before, during, and after security incidents and service interruptions. 
  • Maintain, upgrade, and support existing workstation systems and infrastructure to ensure operational stability. 
  • Open and manage problem tickets with vendors to achieve goals and bring problems to resolution. 
  • Create and maintain documentation related to system configurations, processes, and procedures. 
  • Provide support for production software and services. 
  • Write scripts and tools that drive automation and enable product teams and end users to move toward self-service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position) 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in system engineering, with a focus on Intune management and administration. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Intune, including configuration profiles, compliance policies, app deployment, and conditional access. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Endpoint Manager (MEM) and other Microsoft 365 services (e.g., Azure Active Directory, Azure Information Protection). 
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, including DNS, DHCP, routing, and firewalling. 
  • Understanding of security hardening best practices. 
  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, ZSH, Bash, and Python. 
  • Strong knowledge of application packaging. 
  • Experience with Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac management with Intune. 
  • Experience with Windows Server 2016 - current. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. 
  • Experience with active directory, including group policy, AD sites and services, domain services, and domain controller configurations. 
  • Experience with the following services and technologies: Entra, Entra AD Services, Intune, and Certificate Management. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working in higher education or similar industry or organization. 
  • Experience with process improvement methods and tools.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $90,000 - $98,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.
