The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing biomedical research and clinical care through innovative technologies. We are excited to announce an opportunity within the PRoBE Laboratory for Pattern Recognition from Biomedical Evidence, led by Dr. Vanathi Gopalakrishnan. Our lab focuses on integrative modeling and analytical research, leveraging diverse health data and knowledge to discover biomarkers and systemic patterns underlying biological states. The goal is to inform precision disease diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment. As a team, we aspire to impact global healthcare by translating our findings into clinical practice, particularly benefiting women across their lifespan.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Learning Development:

Develop, design, and generate machine learning predictive models.

Utilize programming languages such as Java, C#, JavaScript, and Python for state-of-the-art code development and debugging.

Curate complex datasets for modeling purposes.

Code Modification and Enhancement:

Modify existing Java and Python code to improve functionality and efficiency.

Experience with AR/VR coding and science is a significant advantage.

Multi-Omics OR Multi-modal Digital Health Data:

Familiarity with multi-omics health data mining OR experience with multi-modal digital health data acquisition or analysis is desirable.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or related fields.

Strong experience in machine learning, software development, and data analysis.

Passion for advancing women’s health through innovative research.

Job Summary

Executes the thoughtful design, development, and implementation of software programming applications; determines technical specifications and standards for complex projects; serves as lead for diverse projects; and manages departmental projects. Develops design specifications; analyzes and interprets system requirements; reviews and modifies systems; codes, tests, troubleshoots, and debugs software applications; and contributes to the research for and proposal of enhanced software applications. Resolves complex problems with expertise and leads lower-level staff.

Essential Functions Generating, maintaining, testing, and refining software code for computational experiments and research prototype development in collaboration with large database mining. Documenting and archiving data and predictive models. Contributing results from machine learning experiments to research publications and presentations.

Physical Effort Moving between laboratories. Occasionally may have to lift objects under 25 pounds.
