Main Tasks:

  • Lead the sales team to achieve sales targets and margin development of HDPE products in Asia.

o Responsible to develop and drive sales target (by customer / segments) and achieve margin targets.

o Develop and manage customers and grow the business as per the business strategy and sustainability targets.

o Develop and manage distribution network in line with BASF compliance rules to address fragmented market.

o Deliver sales volume and price forecasts using both market intelligence and customer interviews in a timely manner.

o Prepare pricing proposals to Marketing for contract preparation and ensure competitive pricing to our customers.

o Responsible for credit management (including assessing credit worthiness, recovery of sales outstanding dues and overdues) with the target to minimize the credit terms (DSOs) and overall credit risk for the organization.

  • Build Sales Organization - Supervise, motivate, coach, and develop the team members.

o Build a competent sales organization before startup of HDPE value chain at Zhanjiang.

o Develop and track KPIs (Sales/FTE, Cost to serve etc.) and drive sales teams to achieve sales/premium target in their own territories and applications, as agreed with HDPE marketing team.

o Develop the competencies and skill sets of sales team.

o Responsible for integration of the new team members to the BASF culture and establish a good working atmosphere for each team member to engage and develop to their potential.

o Develop suitable training for the team and on-job training to improve team member’s skills and abilities.

  • Ownership for Key Account Management

o Deep understanding of customers’ needs and develop BASF business in line with their company strategies to develop their downstream business.

o Ensure higher management involvement with key accounts to strengthen our value to them and consolidate our position in the competition vis a vis competitor.

o Jointly work on optimization and business efficiency measures to achieve mutual economic & sustainability targets

  • Drive Customer events and engagement with Industry Platforms

o Responsible for organizing BASF customer events and activities.

o Keep close communication with customers if they need BASF’s participation in some events, ex: Associate meeting, seminar, or distributor training etc.

o Be part of Industry Associations & Trade organizations to have a pulse on new business trends and opportunities.

o Update events list, to participate new ones with high values and quit from existing ones as per business needs.

  • New Business Opportunity

o Identify potential applications for business growth including developing a customer plan for the mid-term to long term.

o Align with technical & SCM colleagues to identify product and logistic performance to the competitive alternatives.

o Follow up on potential cases and collaborate with customers to drive and track the progress until commercialization.

  • Joint Targets

o Marketing: Support strategy development with customer insights and execute SBU strategy at a customer level

o Supply Chain: To ensure smooth logistic arrangement and manage local inventory in external tank / warehouses in different locations, including sales forecast, swimming orders allocation and indent order monitoring.

o Provide input for transformation of customer focussed business models (ex: E-commerce etc.), identify potential customers open to work with us on change of business process models and implement the change process.

o HR: Identify and develop the talent pipeline and prepare succession planning.

o Digitalization: Support implementation of IT & digital tools to increase efficiencies and achieve cost benefits.

Requirements:

  • Masters / Bachelor’s in Chemistry / Industrial & Applied Chemistry / Physical Chemistry / Chemical Engineering or related area
  • Minimum of 10 years of sales experience in the plastics industry, with a focus on Polyolefins or related products is prefer
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets, managing distributor channels and driving business growth.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability and confidence to motivate and lead a sales team.
  • Ability to analyze market data, identify opportunities, and develop effective sales strategies.
  • Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other sales tools.
  • Willingness to travel to meet with customers, attend industry events, and explore new market opportunities.
