We are currently recruiting for BTEC Nationals Chair of Examiners in Travel and Tourism

Overview of the role

The Chair of Examiners will provide senior support in external assessment activities in accordance with the awarding organisations procedures. You are expected to have both sector specialism and BTEC expertise and experience, and be fully conversant with assessment and quality assurance for all qualifications, programmes, and levels for external assessment within the remit of your sector.

(These are new roles within BTEC assessment)

Responsibilities :

Drive standards through the consistent application of specification requirements through external assessment activities.

Oversee the delivery of effective subject specific standardisation of the AA (Assessment Associate) workforce for external assessment purposes and be responsible for supporting and escalating issues of adverse standards interpretation to Pearson.

Work with Content Production, Chair Question Paper Evaluation Committee (QPEC) meeting(s), sign off external content and contribute to pre-standardisation meetings to ensure the maintenance of standards as well as chair awarding meetings for your area of responsibility.

Maintain regular contact with internal teams within Pearson including Assessment Leaders (AL), Qualification, Delivery and Assessment Managers (QDAM) and VQ Strategy and Engagement Managers (VQ SEM), raising issues as they arise.

Work closely with Pearson to monitor, support and report of the work carried out by the Lead Examiners.

Participate in any marking review for the specification, review learner work and prepare special reports on individual candidates, or groups, in connection with Review of Marking (ROMMs) of an examination, within specified timescales to enable compliance with regulatory requirements.

Experience and Qualifications Required

You will have one academic year's worth of teaching experience:

Within the last 8 years and the relevant qualification and subject

since qualifying as a teacher

Cert. Education

Relevant CPD evidence in the subject area/sector within the last 12 months

You will have substantial subject knowledge and expertise within the specialist sector.

You will have robust assessment experience and will have been at least a Team Leader or similar level in the relevant qualification.

You will have considerable experience of managing people and teams.

Knowledge of quality assurance and assessment practice within vocational education

Experience of marking a regulated qualification

Excellent communication skills with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally

Experience of co-ordinating training, standardisation and standards related activities

A comprehensive level of knowledge of the BTEC specifications for your specialist sector, including the external requirements.

Availability to attend a variety of key meetings and events to support essential quality assurance activities.

Competencies Required

A clear understanding of the educational landscape and regulatory requirements for external assessments in qualifications

Detailed knowledge of the specifications that comprise the area of expertise for the role.

Ability to edit materials to ensure they are grammatically correct and fit for purpose.

Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT, and interpersonal skills.

A customer- focused approach

Develop and monitor clear action plans.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
