DESCRIPTION

Amazon Fulfillment Technology - PEAS (Platform Engineering and Services) Database Engineering Team is currently looking for a Database Engineer position for it’s Bellevue, WA office to design, develop and manage the persistence solutions that serve and support AFT needs. Database engineer will be part of the worldwide operations and responsible for designing, managing and maintaining highly complex, confidential, mission critical and high availability databases in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

Key job responsibilities

You provide engineering support to multiple internal teams building high-performance, high-availability, large-scale DB systems and work on projects like migrating existing RDBMS like PostgreSQL to multiple technologies like DynamoDB. You will develop database automation frameworks for complex systems hosted on AWS etc. You will work with product managers and engineering teams as the voice of the customer, helping design and deliver new features and product improvements that solve the biggest customer challenges. You will use your deep technical expertise, strong relationship-building skills, and documentation skills to create technical content, provide consultation to internal customers, implement multiple storage solutions for their Business systems and applications.

A day in the life

A typical day on our team involves collaborating with other engineers to deploying new Databases through our large automated systems, and operationally supporting your newly deployed software. You will seek out new approaches to automate fixes for operational issues, use AWS services to solve design problems, and engage other internal teams to integrate your applications with theirs.

About the team

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.

LEAD Database Engineering Team is responsible for Engineering, Architecture, Scaling Solutions to Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT), SCOT (Supply Chain Optimization Technologies), WWCR (WW Customer Returns), Gift Cards and Amazon Payments.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as a DBA, Database Engineer, or similar role is required.
  • 3+ years experience DynamoDB, NoSQL Databases and/or other relational databases like RDS, PostgreSQL.
  • 2+ years of experience in Database migrations, Creation of Objects in SQL, NoSQL technologies
  • 1+ Experience with RDS (PostgreSQL, MySQL), Redshift and/or other RDBMS systems
  • Experience in UNIX shell and SQL, and at least one procedural language such as Python, Ruby, Java, Perl

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in supporting large-scale high-availability systems in a production environment.
  • Worked or Contributed to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services such as IAM, EC2, S3, CLI, SDK or equivalent cloud services.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools, Development lifecycle & best practices for coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, Go, ReactJS.
  • Excellent speaking-listening-writing skills, attention to details, proactive self-starter.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $194,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
