The Traits - We are looking for a copy writer to join the Brand Influence & Identity team. You should excel at coming up with big ideas and bring them to life with clear and concise copy. As a brand copy writer, you will push our story telling in dynamic ways while keeping strategic positioning top of mind. You take abstract concepts and add clarity to our brand voice. You are a proactive problem solver always stepping up to the next challenge.

The Team - The Brand Expression team defines, maintains, and expands the Thunder brand. As a creative partner to the various departments within the Thunder organization, we supply creative solutions, language, and design support for a wide variety of campaigns, using central brands and visual themes that help the Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma City Blue basketball teams connect with our fans locally and around the globe.

The Role As a copy writer you will build and maintain our brand voice across various mediums. You will create connections with fans through thought-provoking copy, expand our brand’s verbal expression, and develop language for a wide range of brand initiatives like narrative positioning, campaign language development, and general advertising support. As a copy writer, you will develop ideas, brainstorm, and assist with production on multiple projects, while applying your individual talent, and collaborating with designers and editors to craft exceptional results. This job has variety, and you will work with other versatile creatives as we tell the story of our brand.

In this role you will:

  • Write high level branded copy with extreme attention to detail.
  • Expand and develop the brand’s verbal expression.
  • Team up with designers, project managers, and marketers to develop ideas, refine concepts and ensure creative vision is met through the messaging for various initiatives.
  • Keen understanding of consistency and its importance when crafting a tone of voice.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to contribute to the development of creative concepts and cultivate new ideas.
  • Manage personal workflow and multiple projects.
  • Offer and extract insight on creative briefs.
  • Actively seek fresh ways to approach a creative problem and find unique solutions.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent work or military experience. 2 years of writing experience in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity working within brand guidelines.
  • Detailed understanding of the creative process and how language and visuals work together to amplify a creative idea.
  • High level communicator with ability to present ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Creatively flexible. Takes direction and feedback well. Eager to rework an existing idea or create something entirely new. Conceptualization, recreation of developed campaigns, and implementation of solutions that meet brand strategies.
  • Stay up to date with best practices and industry trends.
  • Conduct research to develop ideas and support writing solutions.

Additional Information:

Work location will be the Thunder corporate office located in downtown Oklahoma City at Paycom Center. Work schedule may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Head of Brand Identity. Employees are encouraged to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
