Job Description

Butterfly is looking for a versatile manufacturing engineer based in our Burlington, MA office. As a manufacturing engineer, you will be responsible for delivery of manufacturing processes and products. You will be responsible for prototyping, sustaining and improving the processes and quality of existing mass production as well as developing new processes required for new products in development. 

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be: 

  • Establish SOPs and in-line process control plans, lead change management, maintain BOMs, and deliver on mass production.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Quality and Sustaining teams to ensure the highest level of patient safety and product quality for systems in mass production, in addition to achieving production output and cost targets.
  • Execute manufacturing related design control deliverables for new Butterfly products in development.
  • Work with the cross-functional team of internal and external partners to achieve prototype build objectives
  • Be a key partner to the hardware engineering and development team, enabling manufacturing processes, design improvements, and yield improvements required for new and existing products 
  • Be a voice of manufacturing during technical discussions, product development checkpoints, and prototype builds
  • Provide DFM requirements for hardware design releases.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes, equipment, materials and products comply with safety and environmental standards, and legal regulations.
  • Perform a broad variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities
  • Travel required, domestic and international, up to 25%.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and 2+ years working with manufacturers in the consumer electronics and/or medical device industry
  • Familiar with quality control tools, GD&T, DFM, product life cycle management, statistical process controls, and lean manufacturing methodologies
  • Experience in designing, developing, and qualifying processes used in the manufacturing and assembly of electro-mechanical products
  • Experience and knowledge of working with contract / component manufacturers on device assembly, including PCBA fabrication and SMT, plastic injection molding, and metal fabrication processes
  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (cGMP, 21CFR820, ISO 13485, etc)
  • An effective communicator to global cross-functional teams

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Hands on experience in all stages of the product development life cycle
  • Experience in molding processes

Location

At Butterfly we offer a hybrid work environment. For most employees, this means part time in the office (two or more days a week). Based on functional responsibilities and equipment needs, certain roles will require full time on-site support.

This is a hybrid position and will be based out of our office in Burlington, MA two or more days a week.

Our office is located near the Burlington Mall in an area called ‘The District'. You’ll have access to community spaces, including an 8,000 SF state of the art fitness center and the OMMM Yoga and Meditation Studio.

Compensation 

Our estimated salary for this role is between $80,000 - $90,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Actual pay is determined by multiple factors such as skills, qualifications, experience and market demand.
