Job Description Summary

The Engineering Director is responsible for ARC’s business’s Premium Anesthesia segment Install base engineering strategy & execution focusing on the following areas of business operations: Installed Base operations, Product Quality, End Of Product Life, End of Guaranteed Service, Variable Cost Productivity, Customer Satisfaction, and First Pass Yield.

The Engineering Director leads the Premium Anesthesia installed base engineering product portfolio, driving all installed base engineering operations and contributing to global Advanced Technology Development efforts as necessary, based on input from the install base. The Engineering Director will work in partnership with the Global Install base Sr. Director, ARC business's CTO and other Engineering Directors to define and execute the installed base strategy on products, platforms, processes, and engineering organizational development.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Director oversight of driving the entire Premium Anesthesia Lifecycle Management Strategy, operations, and install base scorecard/metrics.
  • Lead a Madison, WI-based team that includes engineers & program management.
  • Engineering leadership for all ARC Premium IB operations, including but not limited to On-Time Delivery of IB projects, Product Quality, Portfolio Quality KPIs (Investigations, Non-Conformances, CAPA), ICV (Cost), Customer Satisfaction, Installed Base engineering, and portfolio VCP (Variable cost Productivity).
  • Take active ownership of all engineering actions impacting OTD, such as engineering changes, product quality holds, etc. Collaborate as required with cross-functional teams, including the Manufacturing team located in Madison, to drive install base actions.
  • Adopt principles of Lean to streamline lifecycle operations with the goal of maximizing engineering efficiency and ensuring customer and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Work with the product management and engineering teams to manage the post-launch lifecycle of products within ARC, ensuring that our products remain high-quality, cost-effective, competitive, and state-of-the-art.
  • Inspire, coach, and foster a high-performance team focused on customer satisfaction and business outcomes.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills and the ability to gain buy-in for initiatives.
  • Play a key role in planning and executing our strategic goals, including standardization of designs, adoption of High-Level Assemblies (HLAs), reducing IB maintenance burden, supplier de-risking, refreshing our products & platforming.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Biomedical, or Computer Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • years of design and development experience, preferably in medical device development.
  • 10 years of engineering management experience, including leadership of direct reports.
  • 5 years of program management experience, leading product development efforts from concept to delivery for introduction into the global market.
  • 5 years of experience in various installed base leadership roles, with experience managing IB efforts, including IB projects, regulatory audit support, Field Modifications/Recalls, Quality & Compliance KPIs, and Manufacturing and Service KPIs with respect to the installed base.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results while leading multiple projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing, and the quality of outcomes.
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated engineering knowledge, program management skills, and business planning processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FDA design control requirements.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in electrical, Biomedical, or Computer Engineering, or in an equivalent discipline.
  • 15 years of overall progressive engineering work experience through a variety of program and functional leadership roles.
  • 10 years of experience in various install base leadership roles, with experience managing IB efforts such as IB projects, regulatory audit support, FMIs/Recalls, Quality & Compliance KPIs, Manufacturing, and Service KPIs with respect to the install base.
  • Demonstrated people management skills, including proven mentoring and coaching abilities; demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Demonstrated experience driving continuous improvement for functional excellence in engineering.
  • Experience working with customers.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving execution rigor and functional excellence within an engineering organization.
  • Proven ability to drive change and secure buy-in for initiatives from various global stakeholders.
  • Experience with GEHC’s Quality Management System, product development framework, and associated tools.
