Job Summary

Responsible for leading a team of Software Development Engineers in the planning and designing of software and web applications. Manages projects from design to testing, including new programs, enhancements and modifications. Collaborates with Quality Assurance team to conduct testing. Has overall responsibility for developing/administering performance standards for organizational unit. Manages team which may include exempt and non-exempt employees. Provides subject matter guidance to employees as required. Develops processes and procedures to drive department efficiencies and assists in the development and meeting of departmental budget.

Manager 1, Software Development Engineering

Job Summary: 

Communications Engineering team is looking for a motivated product development engineering manager who can lead a team of DevOps and software development engineers to deliver high quality applications for Comcast Business communications products, platforms, Device Management Systems, data engineering, network automation and operational tools. 

The successful candidate will contribute towards the following: 

  • Multiple software development and DevOps initiatives following agile and SDLC principles and help develop, implement and operate systems in a continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) model 
  • Deploying applications in private cloud using Kubernetes and Openstack environment 
  • Production support and platform maintenance for cloud application and data engineering services. 
  • Lead role and supervision of developers and devops engineering team. 

The selected person should be a technical leader and a team player who has experience working with a geographically distributed team. Must possess strong analytical and development experience to analyze and translate business and networking platform requirements to build high-quality solutions and deliverables and operate and sustain complex systems. 

Job Responsibilities: 

In this role, you will directly manage an engineering team of Devops and Software Engineers developing and managing applications, platforms and advanced network automation and operations tools that support voice and unified communications products for Comcast Business. 

Must possess excellent communication skills, technical and team leadership, and ability to rapidly adapt to changing business and customer demands. 

  • Lead development and releases of multiple parallel delivery projects 
  • Partner with other leaders across clients, application, business, product, and operations, enabling successful execution of the engineering vision 
  • Drive strategy, roadmap and future development of various Comcast products and platforms for Comcast Business 
  • Lead evaluation of new and existing development practices by ensuring operations and customer feedback and champion adherence to best practices. 
  • Mentoring, coaching and performance feedback and career growth guidance for the team 
  • Provide direction to keep teams aligned and on track, advocating a collaborative and inclusive environment. 
  • Assist in managing department budget, resource, and portfolio management. 

Required Skills and Experience: 

We welcome leaders who are enthusiastic about mentorship, coaching and the design of elegant solutions to complex problems. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated people leader who recognizes that the success of an engineering team comes from its engineers. 

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software development, engineering and operations with progressive growth and 2+ years of experience as a technical leader. 
  • Strong experience and expertise in multiple aspects of software development, DevOps, agile methodologies, network virtualization, cloud technologies, automation, Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD), JIRA, Confluence, GitOps, Concourse, Ansible, Elasticsearch/ELK, Containers, orchestration, Docker, Kubernetes. 
  • Experience with IP network engineering, VoIP and real-time unified communications domain technologies is a plus. 
  • Recognize the value of performance, availability, scalability, observability, tooling, instrumentation and security as integral components of any solution. 
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills 
  • Regularly anticipate technical issues, and lead teams to avoid them. 
  • Possess a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for code quality and production stability 
  • Passionate about teamwork, collaboration, coaching, mentoring, and continuous learning. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversees the planning and designing of software and web applications, including new programs, enhancements and modifications.
  • Provides guidance to Software Engineering team and other departments in identifying product and technical requirements. Serves as primary point of contact and liaison between Software Engineering and other teams.
  • Directs implementation initiatives for new software products and applications. Organizes software update process for existing applications and coordinates the roll-out of software releases.
  • Manages all the deliverables to ensure adherence to deadlines, specifications and budgets. Implements performance metrics and prepares periodic reports. Monitors and tracks project progress and reports findings to leadership team.
  • Ensures all engineers keep current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products.
  • Develops proposals, hardware/software changes and other capital expenditure projects.
  • Manages professional and non-exempt employees, conducting work performance reviews and Ensures work performance is adhering to Company standards. Mentors, trains and develops staff.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
