FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college located in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for two positions at either the rank of lecturer (leading to a certificate of continuous employment) or assistant professor (tenure-track), in the Computer Systems Technology Department, to begin in fall 2024.

The Computer Systems Technology (CST) Department is the largest at the college, with nearly 2,000 students. The department offers three degrees: (a) an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Information Systems, (b) a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Systems and (c) a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Data Science. These career-focused programs, integrating theory and hands-on experience. prepare students for emerging careers in the information technology industry. We foster strong relations with industry partners to assure that our courses and facilities meet current and emerging workforce needs and our students’ education prepares them for meaningful careers and community service. Our classrooms are equipped with computers for every student and all computers include current hardware and sophisticated software. The CST Department is thus committed to the comprehensive investment in instruction, advisement, and the experiences needed to prepare students for 21st-century tech jobs with the goals of improving the career readiness of graduates, the number and percentage of students completing paid internships, and the number and percentage of graduates who secure high-paying jobs in computer science related fields upon graduation.

Both the assistant professor and lecturer positions require a commitment to teaching, and sustained service to the department, college and university, including academic advisement, to ensure that the overall education provided by the college prepares students with the academic and career readiness skills they need to succeed and contribute to the community. The assistant professor position also requires scholarly productivity. The lecturer or assistant professor will be expected to participate actively in College/University-wide initiatives and function collaboratively in department level efforts, playing an active role in the creation, development, and assessment of department curricula, in order to maintain the academic vitality of the department.

Reporting to the department Chair, the Assistant Professor or Lecturer will:

  • Deliver instruction which supports the learning and engagement of a diverse student body.
  • Provide service to the department, College, and University, such as program/curricular development, recruitment, and student advisement. Commitment to productive committee work is expected, as well as other department, college, university and/or community service.
  • Achieve ontinued professional growth.
  • Scholarly contributions to the field are required for appointments at the assistant professor level.
  • Day, evening, and weekend teaching and department duties may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

For appointment as Lecturer:

An earned bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science or a related field. Master's degree preferred. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

For appointment as Assistant Professor:

A doctoral degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science or a related field. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Higher education teaching experience and a history of professional practice is preferred. We are particularly interested in candidates with a commitment to working with industry partners to update degree programs to meet current and future workforce needs, particularly in cybersecurity and data science, as well as collaborate with industry partners and institutional partners such as our Professional Development Center, to expand internship and career opportunities for our students. 

COMPENSATION

Lecturer:$81,466-$87,004

Assistant Professor: $86,645-$90,375
