Job Title: Bus Monitor Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Pay Grade: DO 1 180 Days

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide supervision of student being transported by district vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Possess positive attitude toward people and professional situations and is able to resolve student problems.
  • Exceptional communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal with special need students
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing in English
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
  • Preferred Experience:None
  1. Major Responsibilities and DutiesResponsible for general welfare of student’s safety.
  2. Assists pupils on and off the bus
  3. Controls behaving of pupils on the bus and reports discipline problems as instructed by the supervisor.
  4. Supervises the use of seat belts on the bus
  5. Works with the driver to ensure good relations with parents, school officials and related parties.
  6. Operates a wheelchair lift and wheelchair tie downs
  7. Knowledge of routes in order to assist a substitute driver
  8. Attends required staff developments
  9. Handles special children in a professional manner
  10. Demonstrates leadership with proper attendance and punctuality
  11. Follows the chain of command as noted in organizational policy
  12. Uses time wisely to ensure productivity and efficiency.

Tools/Equipment Used: Specialized and adaptive equipment used by students

Posture: Frequent standing and sitting; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking and reaching

Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive equipment

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise and vehicle fumes; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases); work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; may work irregular or prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
