Job Summary: The Human Resources Generalist will manage the day-to-day operations of Human Resources Office, as well as the administration of the HR policies, procedures, and programs. Responsibilities include recruitment, policy interpretation and administration, employee relations, training, compensation, leave administration, recordkeeping, and other duties as necessary. Provides coaching and counseling support to management and supervisors in the areas of employee relations, performance management, training, and policy interpretation. Facilitates timely resolution of employee relations issues while maintaining an appropriate balance between employee and management advocacy.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Provide personnel policy and procedure guidance to employees and management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Awareness of OSHA regulations and compliance.
  • Coordinate open enrollments, changes, and training for employee benefits programs.
  • Respond to human resources-related inquiries.
  • Full-cycle payroll processing on a weekly and bi-weekly basis, ADP experience preferred.
  • Create and distribute internal communications regarding status changes, benefits, or company policies.
  • Serve as primary contact for Workers’ Compensation and Automobile Claims & Audits.
  • Meet with hiring managers to review job descriptions and confirm skills required for job openings. 
  • Review qualifications of potential candidates responding to job postings and facilitate the selection process.
  • Assist with determining compensation offers.
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop effective recruitment strategies and support recruiting efforts by attending job fairs and college recruiting fairs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of unemployment compensation.
  • Manage temporary agencies.
  • Facilitate new-employee orientation and ensure appropriate onboarding process of new employees.
  • Monitor employee morale and company culture.
  • Identify future staffing needs.
  • Process complaints regarding sexual harassment, discrimination, or other instances of workplace harassment and assist in any necessary investigations and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain documentation relating to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, and disciplinary actions. Maintain personnel files.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in HR field or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3-5 years of HR experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred, but not required.
  • Computer skills which include a proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Have the ability to work flexible hours when required to complete necessary job assignments.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks/projects and prioritize workload while paying attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with HRIS systems including ADP and UKG.

  • Must exhibit strong leadership skills as well as possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and easily adapt to changing situations.
  • Write routine reports and correspondences. 
  • Speak and communicate well with internal and external customers. 
  • Complete tasks on time to ensure no delays in production. 
  • Become familiar with all products lines and vendor base. 
  • Maintain a positive attitude in order to effectively convey Hörmann’s good image to the customers, vendors, and homeowners who may call or stop by with inquiries. 

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed.
  • May require walking primarily on a level surface for specific periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday.
  • Proper lifting techniques required. May include lifting up to 25 pounds for files. 
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the warehouse areas, therefore, he or she should be physically able to safely maneuver in that environment. 

Equipment Used:

This position is a communications-oriented position and will primarily use a computer and telephone to perform most work tasks.
